About 20 ft off from the trail today I noticed something that didn't quite look right, it looked like a burl but was the wrong colour for the tree. When I went to investigate it turned out to be a huge chunk of dried resin...

I didn't have a bag with me today but I'll definitely go back and harvest some of this !

And some Trilliums, I have recently read that the leaves from these are edible and taste like sunflower seeds. Well after trying one I found them to taste more like Lettuce. I didn't swallow the leaf but chewed it up then spat it out. About 30 seconds after spitting it out I felt a burning in my throat ! My tip is ' Just cos a field guide says something is edible it still pays to do an edibility test as your body may have an adverse reaction !'.

Yeah I know what ya thinking " What the hell has all this got to do with Batman ?".

Well ya see Robin gave his position away by chirping at the wrong moment and was quickly dispatched by the tiny terror. I tried calling her away but she won't leave till the chirping stops !

So now she's gonna have Batman on her case !:D

Great pics as always Pit. Great tip on the "edibles" too. That's a good thing to keep in mind.
As for Snicker, well, dogs will be dogs.

Hi pit -

Sweet pics and story as always.

Nice find on the resin.

Trillium looks different in these parts - the leaves have more of a red tinge to them, but maybe just a different variety grows here in the cornfield.

best regards -
