whats that smell........its rem oil

been looking for that one nice EDC for some time now , picked up a used Gerber covert ATS34 flat blade...nice knife , solid no fluff a good knife...

but its not the ONE , ya know that one that just rings your bell....
so i went shopping , read the books/postings , TK , Blade etc etc...
wanted a benchmade , all the guys have one , I'll give one a try ....
picked up a apparition #670 I think , about a week later it shows up...open the box and I get that wiff of rem oil...real nice knife , solid , great snap , its just perfect ya know , much to nice to use.....got to find something nice but not too nice , want to use it...

off to the safe it goes , as I open the safe I get that faint smell again....rem oil...
so I go looking for the ONE again , the 670 was to nice , so try the 672s , g10 scales , not as good looking as the 1st one , may make a good user...

about 10 days later it shows up , have not even opened the box yet and....sniff... sniff...rem oil....must have left the safe open again....getting old , I do that some times...open the box and , the 672s is a sweet knife , fit is great ! the snap and lock up are as tight as my safe , sharp as all get out , to nice to use and now I have a set of them....can't brake em up ya know....there is that smell again....rem oil .....off to the safe it goes.

I can't have this , I've still got the old ATS34 Gerber Covert with the flat blade....got to have a nice , new EDC , don't want to spend to much or I might not use it...ya know..

off I go shopping again....find a nice used Ka bar Dozier Thorn D2 blade , sharp and light , should make a great EDC...it shows up and it is as new..........sniff ...sniff......darn safe is open again...wooosh off it goes in to the stack of other want to be EDC's......I'm getting worried now....

will ther ever be a EDC out ther for me ???

OK...this time I'm going to buy a CHEAP knife....go to a auction site , just looking around.....up comes this NRA/benchmade outdoor/hunting knife a steigerwalt , less then 50 bucks...this has got to be my EDC , at last , a cheap well made knife , I'm going to carry this one !

get home and check the mail about a week later , keep getting this faint wiff of rem oil.....the mail box is empty....OK...it's all in my mind...I'm not losing it yet.......on my TV chair is my copy of shooting times....there is that smell again......under the book is a padded bag....my Sweet Wife beat me home and got the mail 1st....it's the benchmade/NRA knife still sealed in the box never opened......sniff....sniff............yes , it's nice , sharp and sweet......In the back round I hear something....feed me....feed me...woossh off to the safe it go's.....and that ol' flat blade gerber covert ATS34 is back in my pocket again.........

Lookin' around again...............sniff...sniff..........rem oil......I've got to quit , I can't get off the stuff.......is that a Rukus mini auto I see......noooooooo...not again...

If you can afford to keep bying all those knives, then why don't you carry the one you like best and if you break or lose it, buy another one then. Or just get two so you can put one up and carry the other. I think you will find out if you carry a nice knife, you won't do as many destructive things with it and it will actually last a very long time, plus it will aquire character marks with use. You will also get a sense of pride from carrying a knife you really like. You could also carry a cheap beater and your better knives. I carry all my knives, they cost too much to sit in a safe. A picture would be alot cheaper and serve the same purpose. You wouldn't buy a nice car and let it sit in the garage while you drive the old mini-van would you?

Yep! I would. I'm just like gg... But, I don't put mine into a safe. I give them as gifts to one of my six son-in-laws, or one of my five sons, or one of my many friends.

What does Rem oil have to do with anything?

Something is wrong if you can't bring yourself to use a plain old production knife. Do you put cheeseburgers in the safe because they taste good, then look for one that tastes like a spoiled rat carcass?
