I first saw a Sniper blade (full sized LPC) on YouTube while farting around. It wasn't long after that I was googling like hell to find one for sale. No dice. Called and spoke to Lance - very cool guy, but no stock and all the dealers he was kind enough to mention were out of stock. Balls.
In the meanwhile I surf the forums and these dealer websites in hopes that one day a mini DH w/ hamon heat treated blade shows up. Fast forward a month and several Spydercos, Benchmades and even a Crusader Forge folder later and I come upon a post from GP Knives about some new Sniper Inventory they got in stock! Nice. Hurry my ass to their website and lo and behold they have a mini DH with hamon heat treated blade - only catch is that the g10 scale on the knife doesn't exactly knock my socks off. It's a coyote brown and black puzzle piece job and I'm not quite feeling it. Fuck it - I can't wait.
Three long days later and I get it in the mail. I have recently been on a bit of an acquisition binge and have a bad case of hard to please. Most of the new knives I've purchased just aren't as rewarding once they're in you hand. Definitely not the case with this knife. I open the box, unzip the small pouch (making sure to hide the receipt so my wife doesn't think I'm crazy) and behold the object of my obsession. I smile. I open the blade. I smile some more.
Ergonomically incredible - very functional design, the hand filed pattern of the jimping, the just right choil placement. Aesthetics? Purely objective, but the DH just does it for me - the chunky, full belly of the skinner-style blade, the contrast of the hamon treatment, the full titanium backspacer and yes, even the black and tan scale - I can't keep it out of my hands.
I honestly believe I have ruined myself and hope that future purchases are not overshadowed by this experience. God help my wallet.
