I don't know about you Garrett, but I was only in my shop for about 1.5 hours yesterday afternoon...I literally did have snot frozen into my goatee! Pretty gross, I know, but you brought it up! :D -Matt-

Cold!!! Tell me about it. We are at 70 right now. If it gets any colder I might have to get out a jacket or something.

You guys will be laughing during the summer months at me, so its my turn right now.:D

I just got in from the shop.... my unheated garage. Freaking layer of ice in my ATP 641  and on top of that my heat gun crapped out so I was having to hang blades in front of my halogen lamps to warm up enough to get a coat of ATP on and then I knew when they were dry because no more steam :p

I just checked the thermometer and it's a balmy -32f outside here again but thanks to the airtight wood stove it 78f in the house.

I believe in the fact that steel becomes brittle in the cold now. I went out to my car a little while ago and sat down in the seat and the 3/8 bolt that holds the back of the seat up sheared without hardly applying any pressure. Essentially my seat is now a perminent recliner. Just great. This weather REALLY blows.

And my snot froze while I tried to fix it.

My shop is down to 30F. But its -18 outside. The water in the kitchen is froze up but its appears to be ok in the rest of the house.

The wood stove ran good all night and I got up about 330 a.m. to put some wood in the stove. I think I am going to wait this out before getting back in the shop. I could fire up the kerosene stove but I have all my orders up to date as of now. :D

Later today I do need to bring in some more wood. The weatherman says it just going to be in the single digits here today. Great day for ice skating.

Its been in the -30's all week and during the day it barely makes it to -25. I use synthetic oil in the Ford F150 and plug in the block heater for a couple hours before starting. Let the engine run for a minute or two, ease the tranny into drive and drive off easy. Tranny feels stiff so I don't push the gas for the first mile, tires are stiff and feel square for the first mile two, and that bench seat is like a slab of concrete. Ford has good heaters, after the first half mile or so the heat builds up quickly and I can soon take off the gloves- however that steering wheel can still be burning cold.

Wood furnace eats and eats continuously, with two feedings during the overnight. I burned half a cord in just the past two weeks alone.

Went cross country skiing each day under blues skies and blazing sunshine. I am using polar wax under the foot, and it is no different than candle wax. Beard, eyelashes and eyebrows all frost up during my afternoon ski up the Bench trail.

Though it is cold, the forest is busy; lots of cat tracks and rabbit tracks. There is also a couple of large wolves, and a moose making the rounds. I have not seen much in the way of deer tracks lately, I suppose they are not moving too much during this cold snap.

I have enjoyed the cold snap, my appetite is good after an afternoon ski, the BBQ controls are stiff at these temps and it takes longer for the grill to heat up. During the warm up there is a period where the grill really steams, once that starts to clear up then I know the grill is getting hot, and a good meal will be on its way.

The night sky is blazing with stars even with the bright moon we had, and the trees crack in the night time breezes of -35.

If one is well prepared, a cold snap is a pleasant quiet time of year
