Hello all, Has any one here used a Snow and Nealley double bit axe or any axe made by them? How do they compare in steel quality to GB? I am thinking about getting a double bit axe and would prefer to buy american but the quality has to be excellent. I have one of their splitting mauls and it is decent but it is not a cutting tool more just a lump of iron. I know balance and shape come more into play with an axe.

Thanks Jay Moyer

Hey, i'm not sure about Snow and Nealley but I own a GB double bitted felling axe and it is of great quality. Everything about the axe is nice even the sheaths are top quality. The handle is pretty stout and the axe has a bit of weight on it like all double bits ive seen but it swings real nice and works great.

Good axe's iv'e been looking for a dealer who takes paypal as there is four of there axe's that i'm after no dealers in the UK but have been told there is a dealer in europe

I haven't had good experiences with Snow and Nealey axes. I would go for the Gransfors, or possibly an Iltis, though the quality control on them can be less than ideal. Better if you can hand-pick one, or try Lee Valley. Let them know what you're looking for, and they'll pick one out for you.

I have a Snow and Nealley double bit axe and it's not very good. The head started coming off the handle right away, just with some regular chopping, not trying to sever the tree in one stroke or anything. Also, the head it ground pretty crooked. It looks like a really strong person grabbed each side and twisted them in opposite directions. Finally, the head sits a little crooked on the handle. I wouldn't buy one.
