At a local brick and mortar I frequent today in their 2cd bin there was a Snow and Nealy "best axe" 3.5lb head single bit with a 30 in handle and leather edge cover for 65$!!!!

Could not pass it up and talked them out of taxes too.

A little minor surface rust that 5 minutes of flitz and a rag could not fix and an edge ground 3/4 to one side, file and stone!

Handle and fitting seems perfect

Seems like a great splitter and heavy use axe

Anyone own one and use it? Opinions and reviews more than welcome

Thanks Rixaxe, same axe but head is completely finished like the edge and more goats foot at the end of handle. I think the new ones are this way

Oh 2cd bin denotes ones not worthy to ship as 100% .........They knock 35 to 70%k depending on condition.

I passed up a CS frontier hawk with sheath.....rolled edge and a couple marks on handle $22. I already have one so left it

For about a decade Snow & Nealy axes were made in China. If you got one of those then it was no bargain.

The trouble is Snow and Nealy made it very hard to tell the Chinese heads from the older ones. Of course, their official line was they were only importing rough forgings and then doing the heat treat, polish and handling here.

If it has the Made in USA sticker on it then the handle will say Smyrna.

Only USA made Snow & Nealley have the head stamped, while Chinese heads have only a sticker. When the current owners took over in 2012, they still used Chinese forged heads until they were able to source the heads to a US business.
