Got some snow today and was off from work anyway so I started on a little project I have been wanting to tackle for a while. I have absolutely hated coated blades ever since I have been into knives but my love for infi overpowers that hate...but today with some citristrip and A LOT of elbow grease I resolved that issue with two of my busses and got a good start on another so I thought I would share.

My AMS and Hell Razor

and my TGLB that is proving to be the most work of all and still needs some more work

I am even happier with my busses than I was before, the edge and slicing capabilities are greatly improved with this change....Bring on the BIG finish production models Jerry

Looks great, I really like the look of that TGLB. How did you get it to that point, exactly lol? I'm afraid to mess up my almost 500$ knife but id love for mine to look like that. How will that finish ( the way it is in the pic) hold up as far as rust?

The TGLB has been through the following steps. Citristrip gel, this step has to be repeated a few times because the coating is thick, so apply stripper, wait 20 minutes, strip off a layer and repeat (I did it three times) then 60 grit sand paper, then 100 grit. That is as far as I have been with the TGLB. The hell razor and AMS have been through 150 and 400 grit and I am debating going through 600 and 1000 grit but I like the way they look now, I am going to catch the TGLB up to 400 grit atleast. as far as the rust goes these are my first busses and I have little experience with them naked other than my HG-55 that is satin finished and has held up fine through a deer season. I can also say that I tried to patina the hell razor with vinegar and it wouldnt take so I would think that if that oxidation wont occur it shouldn't rust too easy

I do not think it is possible to mess up a Busse.

Here is what happened to my FBM after some cirtristrip, handle change at Busse, and some sandpaper/Dremel polishing of the blade.

Mainaman, that FBM looks awesome! And your right it is tough to mess up a Busse. I think they look awesome stripped by hand and used hard

ETA: mainaman the terror monkey is the one I got from you

I remember, glad you like it.

Thanks. I might try and pick up someones beater blade to practice on first.
After my experience with these three I would have if you want a practice blade try to find a full flat grind model it will be the fastest and easiest to polish and give you a good idea of how far down you have to sand. It is a pretty fun project and if your knives are users like mine they will maintain a good look after use when stripped where IMO they look like crap when the finish is worn off the sweet spot and not off the rest

Thanks guys, I got a chance to use the TGLB brigade a bit this morning and it is like a different knife, no regrets
