Snow leopard and lapis

I had this folder at Blade, but it wasn't engraved. ......seems that is what most folder guys want...anything other than a plain canvas.

The inlays are lapis with little flecks of pyrite. Frame is ht 416ss, deep releif engraved with 22k gold inlays. The blade is 600 layer maidens hair pattern damascus. A self lock of course.....

The Snow leopard is sculpted in pure silver with bulino accents. The picture makes it look flat, but it is really cool in person. I used a single point to texture the hair. ( I made one of our cats nervous by staring at it's face so I could get a feel for the flow of hair around the eyes and mouth;) ). When you turn it, the light gives a holographic effect on due to the hair texture. Snow leopards range near areas where lapis is found, so I though it a more appropriate subject than a savanah leopard. Anyway, hope you all enjoy it. The other side isn't finished, but I will shot another pic when it is.

Beautiful. Is that your damascus? I'd love to see a close-up of it if you can manage it. The cat, too. :D

Holy schmoly - that is some kind of sweet! I would love to see that one in person. I do hope that either you or the fortunate new owner will get a pro shot done of that so we can all enjoy the fine details.

Bailey . . . knife is great, inlay is a refreshing shape, scroll engraving is OK, leopard is horrible! It would put me off buying such a knife. When you engrave people or animals they have to be 110%, or it's better not to do them.

Bailey . . . no negativity intended, just honest feedback. Your knifemaking can stand its ground with the best of them. I just feel, in this case, that the leopard is detracting from the overall knife. It's not adding value.

Hilton,

I am objective enough with my own work not to take offense. It really is a case of bad photography and not bad engraving. I just wish you could see it in person.

I have seen photgraphs of engraved animals that do a terrible job of showing what the engraving actually looks like. That is probably the case here. A closeup of just the leopard would show better detail.

Opinions are like belly buttons, everone's got one, But for me personally, I love it. Your work is growing by leaps and bounds, it never was bad but keeps getting sweeter all the time. Dwayne

Bailey does need better photos, there is no way to tell the detail or depth he has achieved without a better angle and closer pic.

You're learnin' son........sorry I missed seeing you at blade........so many people.....so little time!!!!!

Stunning work, sir.

If this is a typical example of your work, you're a very gifted maker.

Thanks for the pictures and commentary. I enjoyed it.:)

Extremely nice Bailey.
Very well executed and tastefully done.
