I have been looking for a quality, easy to use canister fuel stove. I think the snowpeak gigapower might be fine. I wanted to know if they burn most of the fuel in the canister? I read that the MSR PocketRocket leaves unused fuel behind.

I own both stoves, and haven't had issues with not burning all the fuel with either. (Actually it's a cheap knockoff version of the Pocketrocket, and it does just fine!)

The only time it wouldn't burn all of the fuel is if it is almost empty (at which point it will essentially be pure butane or isobutane) and the adiabatic cooling, combined with cold external conditions, has frozen the remaining gas.

Under normal circumstances, it will use all the fuel.

 Actually, I thought the Gigapower was more expensive? I too have had both, they work just fine. The Snowpeak might be just a tad smaller. Whatever you do, stay away from the piezo starter on the Snowpeak, it tends to break.

ETA: Just looked up the prices on REI...looks like they're priced the same. The snowpeak must've gone down in price since I bought mine (thought I paid almost $50 for it a few years ago).

I like the pocket rocket more in terms of durability. You can also fine tune the flame. I've had both, and still have the pocket rocket.

I have been using a Pocket Rocket for nearly a year now and it is a great little stove. Never had a problem with it not using all the gas in a cannister.

In ideal conditions, it boils water really fast. I use mine with a Trangia kettle as I am usually brewing for 2.

I've been using the GigaPower for a couple of years, now. It is a quality product. In terms of "butane" stoves, it is first rate. I tried it and the Pocket Rocket side by side in the camping store. The PR was louder and shakier, while the GP was more quiet, completely stable and packed smaller. I bought the SnowPeak stove.

Shakey pot supports are a recipe for dinner getting dumped into the dirt. Don't ask how I know:(

As things stand, I am completely happy the th Snow Peak stove.

Sorry, I can see how my original post could be misconstrued. What I meant was that the "pocket rocket" that I own is not the MSR version but a cheap knockoff version, but still does really well. The Snowpeak is a great stove as well! Sorry for the confusion. :D

No problem. I had the pocket rocket for a long time, and it is one tough mother. A true classic in the backpacking world...

I'm on my second season w/ a Ti Gigapower- I was a little skeptical of the Piezo starter, but many, many starts later I really like it :)

I also built a Ti windscreen for it that helps w/ fuel consumption and boiling times

Ive had the SP Ti w/piezo for about 10 years now. It has worked perfectly for me. Plus, with the piezo, youve got a mini taser. I accidently lit myself up with one many years ago, ouch!

^ :D

glad to hear the piezo is that long lived

I've been using the titanium Gigapower with the starter for about 5 years and the starter has been fine---so far. Hope that continues because it is very handy. I am impressed with how quickly the stove boils water and its seemingly high fuel efficiency. Incredibly light and compact. I like it.

As I recall, there are plans on the Ultralight Backpacking website for a Gigapower wind shield.

^ that would be good, the one SP makes is too heavy, the ti one I made was a very big pita :D

Is tasing yourself as bad as having pepper spray leak in your FRONT pocket?
