I am looking for a new pair of snowshoe boots. would like a highboot going up to mid calf with a good insulation without being too heavy(ie not pacs). thought of a moc style like some Mukluks by Cabelas but dont know about the water resisting factor even after treating them. Any help would be great winter is coming fast here.

I do quite a bit of "shoeing" every winter. My own preference is a pair of Sorel boots (not pacs) that are just over ankle high, worn with a pair of Outdoor Research gaiters that reach just below the knee. I like the gaiters because often the tail ends of the snow shoes will flip snow against the backs of my calves, where it could otherwise melt and soak the legs of my pants.

not sure what you mean? I am looking at getting a pair of boots sometime soon but sure not going to try making them.

That answers that. The reason that I asked is that I havn't seen much to choose from that are made just for snowshoeing. A friend of mine has a pair made in Canada that are light, the toecurlsup slightly, and has agum-rubber sole. He doesn't use them cause he doesn't think that they make them anymore. In my experience lightweight is good becuse of all of the walkin around causes my feet to heat up too much. I made a pair once out of sheep skin,WAY TO HOT. Steiger Muklucks are my next choice but I don't have the extra money right now. I am capable of makin them but would rather have them show up at my door all done.

thanks for the link, the Yukon Jack Mukluks look like what I was going for. the snow profing looks like a worth while add on too. will have to look into them some more.
