I thought that I would share my latest outdoor adventure with Beckers--a snow shoe hike.

The scenery:

The dog:

Boiling water for soup:

The BK13 spreading cream cheese on a bagel:

The BK17 that went along for the ride, but didn't get any real use:

Thanks for looking!

I wouldn't recommend inviting someone in SC to go to 8000+, He would spend a lot of time siting and puffing :D

Well, it was his idea...

Nice...thanks for sharing...I like the dog's "nun" cowl...the Flying Dog???

:D It is a re-purposed neck gator/hat. The idea is that it would keep here ears warm, and on very cold days, she actually likes it!

Collies like choppers...

Wow man, beautiful place. I love the winter time, and snow. You're fortunate to live near such a place.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun. The snow was 4 to 6 feet deep, with much deeper drifts.

My family will sometimes go "snow caving." This consists of finding one of the largest drifts, digging a tunnel into it, hollowing out a (10ftx7ftx5ft) room, and sleeping in it over night. We use sleds to haul snow out of the cave, and avalance shovels to dig. If the room is made about 3 feet above the innermost end of the tunnel, the cave will stay at exactly 32 degrees, even when it is as low as -20 degrees outside. So fun! But now I'm getting off topic. So here is some knife content:

You did say 4-6 feet of snow!!! Beautiful place to call home. Great pics. That dog looks cold.

Thanks for dragging us along........ I ALWAYS have to be drug along if snowshoes are involved.....LOL.......nice pix.....

I've only been snowshoeing once, courtesy of the US Gov't. I really enjoyed it, glad to see you are too. This thread brings back a lot of good memories.

Very nice pics! Thanks for posting.

Amanda and I want to go snowshoeing so bad. But with two weekends of rain/ice storms most of our snow is gone. What we have for snow is way too hard to use our snowshoes. Hopefully we will get more snow soon and we will post up our own snowshoe adventures.

What boots are those that you have for your dog? We need to get a set for our dog.

Jeremy

Thanks Ethan and everyone for commenting! It was a lot of fun to do and write about.

@dresnor: The boots are called "Muttlucks." These are the fleece lined version. The dog does not like putting them on, but once in the snow, she loves them. Make sure to make them really tight--otherwise they'll fall off. (Not circulation cutting off tight--just regularly tight.)

Excellent thread!

I was going to start a "Shoeing" thread, just to get folks some exposure. But ya beat me to it,

Great photos,

That's a good point. The nearest "peak" here is about 26 feet above sea level :D

I'll just go watch a nice youtube video of someone else snowshoeing

EDIT: I beg your pardon. I just wikipedia'd my town out of curiosity. Our peak elevation is only 10 feet :D
