Happy Winter everyone. We live in SE Virginia and as I sit writing this piece there's a blizzard going on. The wind's strong and since around 3 AM it's been picking up speed and intensity. I estimate it's five or six inches deep, and here that's a lot. There's only been a human sighting once, and it was to walk their dog, the rest of us and the city itself are at a standstill. Yet it's supposed to be sunny and clear tomorrow. At least it's the weekend and not a weekday, so we can relax and enjoy the view. Have a good one and be safe out there!

My wife and her parents just drove from VT to VA Beach to see her godmother. They drove as far as southern NJ on saturday and said it got pretty bad. They drove the rest of the way to VA Beach on Sunday. She said the weather was fine sunday but the roads weren't great. Lots of cars off the highway. But her father has been driving in snow his whole life and they just put winter tires on their Honda SUV all wheel drive so they didn't have any trouble.

Hope you dug out okay.

5-6 inches of snow would shut Alabama down. I mean completely. As a kid it was awesome. Not so much as an adult. It will probably be fun again once my kids get a little older and can enjoy it....every couple years when we get enough to play in.

NE Georgia here and we got about 4". It shut down my little town for Saturday, but Sunday was fine. School is out due to buses cannot get down some of the small untreated roads in this county. I agree was pretty on Saturday morning, but Saturday night it got down to 12 degrees and was not fun for these old bones.

VA Beach and NC and VA in general got hit pretty bad on this storm. Hope things are good at this point.

I'm stuck at home. Went up the street with my car got to the top of a small hill lost control did a 360 and was stuck sideways in the street at the bottom of the hill. Just put rocksalt around the tires and got out. Put about 40 pounds of salt on the hill, don't know if that will help me out much. Getting cabin fever.....lol tempature wont go above freezing till tomorrow or wendsday? Glad I didn't get hurt or mess up my car.

Glad you're okay. How much snow did you get? Do you get any snow usually? I don't mean a blizzard but just annually get some?

I'm right outside Atlanta and it snowed this weekend. The kicker is its going to be 70 degrees later this week!

I'll carry a couple bags of granular kitty litter in my car when it gets snowy out just in case I need a bit of traction to get out from being stuck. Shovel too. It will be warming up tomorrow in my area and this snow event will be pretty much history. New England got hit pretty bad, but their highway departments are better prepared for such things than in the South.

In N.C. We don't get much snow, we got about 3 inches. But the main problem here is ice, not the snow. We fall into a area that seems to get a lot of problems with ice.

I was born in Pennsylvania and lived in south jersey for 32 years. I laugh when the N.C. Residents run out and panic over a couple inches. We aren't set up to keep the roads groomed like the northern states are. We have a lot of back roads, dirt roads and such that won't get touched by the town or city ever.

I will agree with the ice. Once Saturday wrapped up from digging neighbors out, the temps dropped to 19 degrees or so. And then in the wee hours, a solid sheet of ice wrapped itself around us. Most of my neighbors stayed in, and we never saw them except to walk their dogs. It's a fact that some folks down here panic, which does not help at all. So the city simply turns itself off as a safety measure...But I think it's supposed to go up to 60+ later this week. Welcome to climate change.

Yup. Not much you can do about ice.

This "January weather" has certainly been interesting... last week I was trying to do a job at 6 degrees (F) and this week I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt and a bit warm for that. This storm is just a memory now.
