I hope you knowledgeable gear heads can help me.

I'm planning a 3 week trip around Thailand early next year and I'm trying to decide on whether to get the Snugpack Bergen for my trip.

I've been able to look at and try on the Rocket and I think it's a little too small for my needs. However, I really liked the design and it seemed quite comfortable, so I'm considering the Bergen.
Does anyone have the Bergen and if so, what do you think of it?

Alternatively, if you can recommend a pack for around $100 of comparable size and quality, please do so.

As much as I would like a Kifaru or some other more expensive pack, I can't afford it, so please don't recommend them.

$100 is a tough price point. Have you considered a secondhand (used) backpack? I don't know the local market in Japan but, here in the USA I have gotten some really good value oriented "close-out" backpacks on-line from Sierra Trading Post.

The Snugpak Bergen seems like such good value for $116. I just don't have the chance to try one out because I've only found them online. That's why I'm looking for user feedback.

Sid: Secondhand is a great idea. The only problem is that they are hard to find for sale in Japan. I'd have to buy online and I'd probably have to pay at least $30 shipping.

Japan is a tough market with expensive shipping and high retail costs. If you live in a large city, you may find a camping shop that has a variety of packs to consider.

What do the local forums in Japan recommend? Other Japanese campers must face similar choices so, they may have good local suggestions.

Ive never tried the Snugpack, but judging by the looks of it i wouldnt want to carry it on my back for 3 weeks in hot and humid Thailand. If i were you id pick something with abit more back-ventilation. I know Osprey makes some great packs.

Dont know what they cost in Japan though. Expensive id believe...
