hey all,
i was asked to do a review on this pack that i showed in another thread. i beat this thing up all the time and haven't had any issues. packs are a funny thing, they either fit ya right or they don't, there's no pack that'll suit everyone. i'm just greatful that i found the one that fits me.
it's hard to see in the pics but the main compartment from bottom to top on the inside is just a couple inches longer than my fiskars garden hatcher with the weird plastic "sheath handle" on it.
it's a great 3-5 day pack for my needs. everything is heavy duty built as is everything from snugpak that i've used.
i like the built in rain cover a lot, it's something i will definetly be looking for when getting a larger pack soon (possibly the large snugpak rocketpack.) it tucks away into it's own zippered compartement under the pack. very nice feature for me.
Both side compartments fit a guyot 38oz bottle nicely, i can even get a folding handled mug to sit it in. it makes for a great little set-up with my water close at hand.
here are some pics i took today, hope they help, any questions just fire away.
one final thing. i'm about 6 foot 180 pounds if you're looking for a size comparison.

Those Snugpaks are nice. Are you in the US? I was looking around for some local pricing on them.

Looks like a pretty decent pack for what they appear to be going for! Nice write up.

great stuff man... i have always liked those Snugpak's... especially in the O.D. green too...:D

I have one as well and really like it. I'm about the same height and a little thicker. The sternum strap sits a little high on my chest, but the backpack rides so comfortably. My basic kit for 3 days includes a Big Agnes sleeping pad, Army poncho or tarp, fleece blanket inside the main compartment with plenty of room for a change of clothes and food. One side pocket carries my MSR pocket rocket and fuel canister; the other carries my folding handle cup and Guyot Design's 32oz stainless bottle. I've also attached my Maxpedition 10x4 bottle holder to the 4 grommet points on the packs face using a bungie cord (also useful for building a shelter) and then I'm able to detach the 10x4 for a day hike when I don't want to carry the whole kit or break down my camp for short hike to get water or scout.

Great review. I love the pack and the pictures are very helpful to understand the size of the pack.:thumbup:

Thanks for the review Goatriba! Like you, I've been looking at the Rocketpak as a possible candidate for my next pack. I really like the idea of the attached rain-cover. That's what initially interested me in Snugpak. Does anyone own a Rocketpak?

Thanks for the pics, I've always been jealous of the british guys who have these. Likewise, I'd be interested in getting some info on these stateside. (Cost mainly)

Are there and stays or a formed back pad or is the packs back completely unstructured?

Spooky,

It looks like they can be had for as little as $80.00 stateside. PM if you want more info.

Paul

hey all. sorry for the delay in responding. the sternum strap sits a little high for me as well, but the waist strap is perfect and very comfortable.
there are drawstrings that close up the side pockets, and you can see the flaps that pull over top of the opeinings (the are elastic and stay firmly.)
snugpak has impressed me and i will most definetly be returning to them in the futur.
i love the idea of the 10x4 maxpedition being attached to those D-Rings, i have one on its way as we speak and will definetly try that out.
i couldn't give a higher recommendation to this pack.
there is no internal frame in this pack.
i'm in ontario canada. i wouldn't have a clue as to availability in the states. all i know is that i had no issue at all having it come from the UK

I purchased mine at a reasonable price. Goatariba, I'm glad you like the idea of the 10x4 on the D-rings. Let me know if you figure out better way than a bungie cored, I sort of stumbled on it myself and I'm always open to new ideas. To keep the pack weight balanced I will either fill both side pouches with full water containers and the 10x4 with my pocket rocket and fuel, or even add a third water container if I know water may be difficult to come by.

Thanks so much for the review and photos. This is on my shot list of packs and looks like exactly what I want. About $80 sounds right for US prices too from a few places. I have no idea if it is "dealspotting" to post a sellers name or not, but you should be find them easily enough.

I may get one in OD, but I'm leaning toward the brown one myself.

I think one of the best things about the Snugpak backpacks are those built in rain covers. Surprised no other maker (that I know of) does that.

Those pics are good for size comparison, thanks for posting them. Nice write up as well.

Great job.

What material is used on this pack? Is it reasonably puncture proof? Stiff material or forgiving?
I know it has no backbone built in but does it retain its shape with a partial somewhat heavy load in it?

the sternum strap sits a little high for me as well, but the waist strap is perfect and very comfortable.

????

In the photo of you wearing the pack, it appears to be way too short for your torso length; the waist strap looks to be about three or four inches above your waist.... It's supposed to be resting on your hips, supporting the majority of the weight of the pack.

I'm 6'2" with a long torso and the first thing I look at on a pack of any type is the torso length. Having a load-bearing waist belt up around your stomach is not the ideal situation. That pack would definitely not work for me (and really doesn't look like it works for you).

Stay sharp,
desmobob
