I upgraded to a gold membership since I've been spending so much time here, but it doesn't show in the CP or in the members looking at the forums. I received an email receipt that my purchase went through. Appreciate any insight you can give.

You have gold! I just checked & I can send you a PM.

Check under your Group Memberships area in your User CP.

Only issue I have seen is to post in the exchange if you are still showing as a registered user and not a gold member..

Huh, explain please? And I only post here.

as far as the board software is concerned, all of your privs apply at anytime... but you SHOW one to the world per post, posts can have different privs.

so let's say you are a dealer or knifemaker, and you post in the for-sales, which is gold only, you will get a demerit for not posting as gold - since sales is gold only. even though a non-gold priv person cannot post there at all.

therefore, according to the human rules, it's your fault, even if the software let you, even if you've got paid status. so don't do it ;) ideally, the software should do the right thing, but there you are.

see the for-sales for a sticky on this topic.

Well, it's not really unfair.
Manufacturers and kifemakers have their own sections, and can get their own forum here, where YOU can't post your for sales, only they can, so they don't really need to post in the general for sales forum, and you shoudn't be able to post in theirs.

anyone who pays, can post in the appropriate forum. perfectly fair.

it's not appropriate to post in someone's paid for forum. perfectly fair.

even knife makers have stuff to sell that's not appropriate for their own forum, where the general for-sales are, and they pay to post there too. perfectly fair.

the software is just not quite flexible enough [yet] to do the right automagic.

I believe that you're mistaken about who can post on the Exchange, although I used to think the same thing (it may have changed with the last update). If you look at the updated Rules for the Exchange forums you'll see that Gold, Platinum, or Knifemaker members may post there.
