Mild rust on one of the whittlers, and the copperhead, other wise a little pocket lint is all.

JUST A WORD TO ALL SO CAL KNIFE NUTS- I had first pick, but there are about 40 more 70s-late 80s Case and some Schrade USA big hunters, and one Henkels there. Apparently the previous owner of this collection is now into Arrowheads  so he sold his entire collection to the pawn shop! Who really cares what the story is, this store has a couple of really nice gals that are pleasant to look at as well, and one owner Jim, who frantically was pricing these by comparing value on EBAY as I excruciatingly narrowed down my pick to these. The gals that work there opened up all of the little sealed envelopes, and I waited eagerly on each one to see what was inside. As Homer Simpson said, "What a glorious day." I have my fingerprints on all of these knives:):):). I left alot of good ones, if you are within roaming distance of Monrovia CA, it is way worth the drive. 210 FWY to Myrtle north about 3 blocks to where parking starts diagonal (old towne style) on Myrtle west side directly across from an army surplus store. I hope this is not classified as spam, (mods, I have no dog in the hunt). I like the people there, the prices are not a steal, but very fair, (recommend you buy 5 like me for better deal of course) and make sure you have about an hour to look at all of them..... I am repenting of holding this secret for almost a whole week that they were releasing them today, because, well,... I found them first....I hope you enjoy all of the beautiful bone colors as I did. My pictures do not do justice on the Barlow, it is way cool. There is a whole slew of what I called Fat Stag (because I am ignorant) but I think it is India stag, the real thick scales with deep gnarls in it on many Case slipjoints.

Nice score.. Looks like ya got some great ones.
I have dreams of going to the pawn shop and finding a collection that someone sold :D

WOW! What a find. Congrats. I don't know of any pawn shops around me. Might have to look into it though.

Super find CJ,

I noticed you weren't able to date that one Case 62048 thus far. As a Case accumulator, this 20th Century Case Tang Stamp document has always helped me in my searches. Perhaps it may assist you too..

Thanks,
The stainless threw me off. I saw no dots, so I thought it must be pre 70s. It looks as though it is. I was a little upset about the owner pricing as per ebay, but I know he is just trying to find a fine line between profit and movement of inventory. It was funny because regarding 1970 ten dot, which were knives I was interested in (only because the value lists as higher than the exact same of 71 and on) he seemed to figure out that the value was higher. There are a couple of congress knives there that I really wanted, but one he priced at 250, which may be high. There were 3 swing guard cheetahs in red bone there, that I think he may have under priced, but that is a pattern that I am not enamored with, so I left them on the table. The experience was the best part, got to handle alot of case knives!!!!

Great find! I saw a Stag bone in CV once at a pawn shop and when I went back it was gone.:grumpy:

CJ,

You may already know this but the tangs marked 'stainless' are much more scarce than the ones that are not. I like that pattern, you don't see very many of them in that condition.

Thanks, I was not aware of the "stainless" on the tang fact. I thought the Tested XX silver etch made it a "better grade", but understood it could not really make any difference at all. I sometimes see a knife that "I am not sure" it is a good find because I have no information on it, and try to buy what I like, not to purely speculate on a bargain. Having this many choices was tough to decide on. As far as trappers, I always liked this slim line design the best. So the fact it was pre 70's and rarer because of the stainless on the tang, makes it all the better.

Here is a scan of the stainless tang stamp. Scan is better than my camera, but still blurry sorry:o

OT:

If you're interested in using a scanner for knife images, look for a model with a deeper field of focus. The Epson scanners are frequently recommended for this feature. And the stand-alone scanners, by all reports, are much better than than the scanner/fax/printer combo machines.

Thanks Bob,
I would love to make better pictures and scans. You guessed it dead on -scanner is a 3 in one.

Thanks Willgoy,
I could not pass up on that one. I told myself my first daddy barlow would have to be a spear point, but....the bone on this is really nice, so not a problem with the clip blade. Even though it is a hunk of a knife, I am sitting on it right now in my back pocket, and it is definitely an edc candidate. Big, but who cares.....

Hmm, definitely within wandering distance. That might be worth a look at this weekend.

That is a fantastic find,I wish I was closer.:grumpy:Are they all in the same condition? Those look like they were never used.

That's 5 min. from my work. I am going at lunch tomorrow! Oh and thanks for the heads-up.
Do you recall peanuts, or stockmen?
