this one has NO markings on it all
flea market for 3 bucks
so it is what it is

It looks to be an axe or hatchet head without a handle... It's hard to tell size from the picture without any reference... When you start to clean it up you might find some manufacture mark under the grime rust and paint... For $3 looks like a good user to me.

its a big one, easily 5 lbs
much larger than the boys axe I posted last week
have cleaned it up a bit since that pic and there is NO MARKING
at all, its currently swimming in a wash to clean all the bits out

It's a Jersey pattern axe head. from what I can see it has had very little use. And no abuse.
The ribs in the eye and red paint might lead me to think it is a later True Temper, but no way to know for sure. A later manufactured axe.
Probably a very good axe head for a user, not a collectable type axe.

pics with a tape to show size

Spot on. Probably 3-1/2 to 4 pounds. Excellent user.

will do
dont want to use a "store" bought one on this one
thinking something not quite mainstream, who knows yet.
the last one is a beast
accidentally bumped the edge of it and cut my finger with a brush of it
so its plenty sharp

so its plenty sharp

It should shave.

A friend of mine who leads trail crews for a local volunteer group told me about her experience in trail building school. The first thing they did was restore and hang an axe. For the first two weeks they were required to have that axe within arms reach at all times day and night. Each morning before heading out to work they had to demonstrate that the axe would shave the hairs on their arm. That's a great way to teach some one not to abuse an axe.

That gal can handle an axe better than most men I know on the crew.

Wow very nice find. The garage sales around here never have anything that awesome :(

I shave with an old time butterfly razor myself, but don't think I am quite up to the shave with an axe head just yet
most folks I Know think I'm nuts for using a real razor and a mug/brush instead of shit in a can from the store

I find those alot around here as well. I restored and hung one and gave it to the young man across the street, he is happy as a puppy with two tails. Cheeks on then are a little thin but they chop well.
