So here it is. M4 Whancliffe Sebenza with Opening Hole.

Interesting knife. I don't know if I'd still call it a Sebenza though.

How's that poem go?

"This is the axe my grandfather made.
My father replaced the handle,
and I replaced the blade."

That looks seriously weird.

I'm a huge fan of opening holes, but IMO the Sebenza is perfect. I don't mind the thumb lug on it or the Umnumzaan and don't think they'd be better with an opening hole.

Let us know how it performs, function over form and all that. :)

i like the grind and blade shape.

i would have put the spyder hole right near the finger groove to minimize disrupting the lines of the scales.

I'm not really a big fan of the lines, but if you like it, that's all that matters:thumbup:

Could have saved a bunch of money and just bought a spyderco :D

Looks like the blade is rubbing the frame.

Enjoy :)

A tougher Sebenza and a better cutter with acceptable looks. It screams function. The Spyder hole is a very practical design that is well executed in this modification. Much better quality than any Spydercos of that design as well as leaps and bounds over the limits imposed by traditional Sebenza design.

My opinion you did very well. This knife was successfully customized to suite your intended purposes. Improved edge retention, and safety to top it off.

This is surely a "sebenza/worker's" knife and it is refreshing to see things like this being done by people who have decided to overcome the limits to their cutting needs that have been imposed on them. This is a learning experience in what works best in the field for a desired task.

These needs differ and there is no perfect do it all design. Would I be right in assuming you will be using this for other than collecting, staring at it, light use, or opening letters.

Very interesting. I am glad you like it. I hope it serves you well for many years to come.

Thanks guys. I plan to use this knife for all my cutting needs and it's also fun just to handle it and admire the wormanship.

I would have had the hole integrated into the blade a little more... kinda like on the bradly or SNG/mayo tnt's... otherwise, very original.. not my thing, but as long as you like it, that's all that matters!

Nice ! Guess that is more of a custom knife as it has the handle and the blade you wanted. I have one similar but more of a wharncliff and an oval hole so the back does not protrude as much.

Thanks! Got any pics? I'd love to see how yours came out.

I've always liked the spydie hole but I have to say it does not work on the sebbie.
