New VS old. Got my new Ruby swisschamp today. Compared the two models. the one i gave my brother has a thicker file, single row teeth, plastic magnifying glass and shorter phillips screw driver. Which is more desired to vic. lovers? I like new but im trying to see some good in my somewhat older model i got.

I prefer the old ones. It may be nostalgia. Or maybe its because the new ones are so readily available--In that case, I should buy the new ones so that I already have them when they're replaced by even newer ones. ;)

Well, i'm trying to see the good in something old. I'm one of those people who needs to have the newest of everything.

The old magnifier has a higher level of magnification; x8 compared to the new magnifier with a x5 magnification IIRC.

Well, i was mainly talking about the file and screw drivers. I can't tell if both files do the same thing and the change was just to change it up. and the phillips and bottle openers tension feels the same. Or no? Have you noticed a diff?

The older file was advertised as a nail file on one side, metal file on the other. I'm not sure I'd use either side of the newer file on my nails TBH.

I'm not sure that the screwdrivers make much, if any, difference either.

Can both sides of the file do metal/wood/fingernails? Yeah, i'm still undecided on the drivers. But i like the old magnifier better. And i believe it's actual glass?

I prefer the older models. On the older ones, the magnifying glass and Phillips head driver have the same "snap" when opening and closing as the other layers of the knife. On the newer models, there is virtually no "snap". Just a slow, gritty opening and closing. I have examples of both the old and new Swisschamp, Champion Plus, and Explorer Plus, and the previous statement is true on all of them. Also, as already mentioned the old magnifying glass is more powerful, but in addition, it has a real glass lens instead of the plastic on the newer models. The only thing I do like better on the newer models is the file. All of that said, they are both nice. Enjoy them. I gave my wife and son the newer models, and I carry the older.

What's your reason for liking the new file? Does the old one do the same work? I noticed the newer one is rougher, but i have yet to figure out if the old one works. I agree with the grinding of the screw drivers, i thought the same thing to myself.
