So how are the BATAC handles?

I just recently received my first medium FB, a Fehrman Last Chance, and I really like the knife, but now I'm thinking I should have tried a BATAC. I read somewhere, however, that the BATAC handles are a bit big, and I have pretty small stubby fingers. (I need slimline grips on a 1911 to get a good, straight back trigger pull without adjusting).

Now, I know what you hogs are gonna say, but my question is this:

Is it worth trying out the BATAC somehow, or are the grips just way too big and wide? The Fehrman feels good in my hand and has a blade thickness of .25"-- (Not sure how thick it is with the slabs, and it's too late to grab the micrometer.)--but that BATAC seems to be calling my name...

The BATAC is real nice. People were critical more for the length of the handle than the circumference. It was available with standard and magnum slabs. Magnums were just slightly thicker and perhaps a little more square in cross section that the standards which seemed to be more rounded top to bottom(maybe?). The BATAC is a SWEET blade. Maybe some HOG down in Florida has one nearby he/she might let you check out :)

I have a BATAC with mag scales and find that it is not the thickness that is the problem but rather the height of the handle that makes it unconfortable in the hand. I would not recommend it for people like us that have short fingers and or small hands.
Hope this helps.

Im in SoFlo but dont have a Batac yet. When i get one Ill let you know. I do have a Last Chance, which is my go to in the 5" range.

Shiga...is that because you don't have anything else in that range, or because you just like the knife so much? I appreciate the offer.

Jeep, I had read your review last night. Nice work. I still don't have an idea of how they look/feel in hand, though. Any SoFla Hogs got a BATAC?

Everyone is different but here is my spin.
I prefer slim grips on a 1911 also. They feel much better in my hand. I ordered a BATAC with standard snake grips and put it up for sale the very next day. I did not like the feel of it. I later bought one with Mags and it's a keeper. I prefer the mags. Like they said, you might be able to hook up with someone who has one near you, or if it's not too much trouble for you, buy one and see how it feels. They hold their resale value. If you buy it right, you wont be out much if any if you decide to sell it later.

So you like the mags better. Those definitely LOOK too big, but I guess I'd hafta try them out. Just so you know, without the slim grips on a 1911, I don't get enough finger on the trigger (right-handed) and the rounds all end up a bit left on the target. It's less of a comfort thing and more of a physics thing. :D

Well, for the record, I have (literally) small girly hands, and I like my BATAC with the standard slabs. I've had trouble with the mags on just about every blade I tried. Oh, and my 1911 has shaved-down grips and a little more cut to the back strap to perfectly fit my hand.

I don't find the handle shape itself on the BATAC very comfortable, regardless of whether it has mags or not. There is too much of a circumference differece between the size of the grip for fingers 2 & 3 versus 1 & 4. The handles on blades like the SFNO or HR are more comfortable with both mags and standard handles because there is less disparity in height along the length of the handle. I think a person with small hands will often find the swell of the BATAC mid-palm to be uncomfortable for extended use. A handle more like the proposed Sarsquatch #1 would work far better. My $.02:)

Sounds like you might be better off to try before you buy. Standard scales may the the thing for you or another design may fit you better. Its a bit of a struggle sometimes but there are lots of CB BATAC's out there. Have you looked at the exchange? You might want to about right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have kinda small hands, but I love my BATAC LE, and it's .27 with mags! I think you will be happy with whatever BATAC you choose.
