I picked up a couple of CS tomahawks (thanks to Mike's wonderful sale

) because they were so cheap and I thought it might be fun to throw them around. So now that I have them, does anybody know of some good sources where I can find info for learning how to throw tomahawks knives, etc. Thanks.

This is the kind of thing that is much easier if you have a friend. All you want to do is throw from a specific distance so that the blade hits after making one rotation. If the friend is standing perpendicular to the target (a fair distance away of course) he will be able to tell you where it hit so you can adjust your distance. Once you get that down you can easily throw at multiple turns.

Note it is important to get a smooth release and follow through (which are the same thing basically). Having multiple blades is a good thing as it greatly speeds up the process as walking back and forth can throw you off.

One other thing, having a well padded target is very nice, not only because it protects the blades, but it will absorb impact energy and thus greatly reduce bounce backs from missed hits.

There is scads from information out there. Just use any search engine to turn it up. The following is a good place to start as well :

just use the guess and check with different methods: see "a message to everyone" back in the general forum.

Knives and Cars...
Simple but EXPENSIVE.

For targets, try and get a good sized log, 2 Ft in diameter would be great. Then throw into the end of it. The end grain is spongey and will let the hatchet stick without bouncing. It will last longer than if you throw into it across the grain and consequently cut chunks out too.Have fun.
It helps if the log is green instead of dried.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

As a beginner target you might want to use multiple layers of cardboard (collapsed boxes) at first. Your hawk won't bounce back as much and you are less likely to damage it. I also like to put more cardboard under the target in the region where the hawk will fall if it doesn't stick.

Try Throwing from 7 natural step's back from your target I use to cut the hawk handle to the leangth from my elbow to my nuckles on my hand it seemed to do well for me also practic throwing it at a playing card in the middle of the stump
