So how do you like your Buck/Strider folder?

I just received a 1st production mini that is a hell of a knife. I haven't seen the full size at all and was wondering how are they for everyday carry and how do you like them over all. I'm going to keep my mini for a collectors piece so i'd also like to know whether you like the mini or full size for a carry piece because I'm going to get another one. Thanks.

WOW! Somebody actually bought a mini?

I finally had to dump my entire inventory (except for one) because no one was even interested. Another dealer took them, (30 in all). Same thing with the spearpoints. Same dealer took all 15 of those too. I was really surprized as I thought they were fantastic knives. I guess the public didn't agree.

To me, the small model was the ideal size for a knife like that. Tough compact and well built. I had great hopes for the spearpoint too. Guess I'll have to curb my enthusiasm for when the next models come out.

Dennis, Great minds do think alike!:D

I think the Large Buck/Strider Spearpoint (especially in BG-42) is one of the greatest production folders available and most assuredly providing about the very best bang for the Buck! (Sorry:rolleyes: )

I have not seen the mini but the full sized model is my knife of choice when situations (PC sheeple:barf: ) require a folder but anticipated tasks would otherwise dictate a fixed blade.

It's one heck of a knife for someone who is actually going to use their knife. It's not a gentlemans folder or some armchair Rambo tac Folder, but for a quality user for real "hard use" it's about my top choice.

Dennis I didn't actually buy it. I got it as a gift but really like it. I want to pick up another and that's why I was wondering about either getting a full size or another mini. The spear point looks interesting too.

I got a large Buck Strider tanto a while back and was impressed with it, although it's not conducive to every day carry (although just fine for many outdoor activities that I enjoy). So I managed to get a couple of the minis which are still good, but I prefer the larger one.

My greatest issue with the minis is how difficult they are to open one handed. It's like the torque of pushing on the thumb stud actually binds the blade. With the larger design, this isn't a problem.

Both have a very solid design, but I personally feel that the larger one works more smoothly, feels studier, and would be my preference when size isn't an issue.

I have two large spearpoint Striders, one BG-42 and one ATS-34,and alternate between one of these as my heavy-duty carry folder. The only thing I`ve done is lightly round the edges of the handles to get rid of the sharp corners.I think the spearpoint is more versatile than the tanto, and can`t believe it`s not more popular.

I didn't care too much for the tanto version, but I'm eagerly awaiting one of the spearpoints, it's coming through the BCC special that was offered to members some time ago. Hopefully it'll come some time soon. Then I'll report on how much I like it, ;).
I did get a tanto in a trade, but as I said, it does not "ring my chimes", mostly due to the blunt secondary edge in the tip. Otherwise I like the Strider idea of a big tough folder.

Has anyone actually found one of the new spearpoints for sale yet? And hopefully one of the first run in BG-42. I have been looking but havent seen them around.:(

mschwoeb,
I am not sure if you want the mini or the full size 880SP. If you want the full size you might try TOP OF TEXAS. You will find the item third from the bottom on their Buck Knives page. They have the best price that I have found for this knife. I have dealt with them before and found them trustworthy. I am sure that if you search you will find that the regular spearpoint is available from most of the more prominent online dealers and only mention the specific dealer above because I checked it last week and am sure of that one dealer.

mschwoeb,
According to one of my sources, the mini Strider spearpoint samples are just now going out to Buck Sales reps. The production will begin very soon on them. I am anxious to obtain one. I agree with most of the other forumites that a tanto blade is less desirable.

ROB01,

Yes, you are right, we have the mini-buck Striders with both ATS34 and BG42 steel (serial numbered)

Oso Grande:)

yeah, I am waiting for a 881SP. Hope to get a BG-42. Me and everyone else;)

Well then mschwoeb contact Oso Grande because they have them available now. Better hurry. ;)

mschwoeb,

We got the BU-881-SP BG-42 Serial numbered last week.
(Just to let you know)
