So, how does the Busse Custom Shop really work?

I have some great knives from the Busse Custom Shop, but I have never ordered one directly.

My customs have come from shows and 'ganzas and they are some of my favorite knives.

But just how do you order a knife from the Custom Shop?

How do you get a pair of NMOASH's with snakeskin magnum handles?

How do you order that old school satin SHSH with black/grey smooth magnums?

Can you order a Mud Razor in satin with magnum black G10 handles?

I see some wonderful knives in threads here that are obviously "bespoke" knives - made to someone's precise requirements.

Where is the form I need to fill out to get my special project moving forward?

I've checked the back of a few Carling labels and it's not there. :D :D

I haven't figured it out either.

I am trying bribery.

The other alternative is to find someone else to do the work, like this:

attachment.php

1) Call Jerry, tell him you agree with him that Cobalt doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to Scotch.
2) Tell him money is no object and time is on his side.
3) Then tell him what you want and wait two weeks.
4) Chazzzzammmmmmmmm, the knife(s) arrives and you are happy forever!

It is sooo easy!

I am actually tempted to try this! lol :D

But, in all seriousness, I have often wondered the same thing. I would also like to get a custom made to spec. by Busse. I have no real clue how this is actually done other than the logical assumption of Calling/emailing Busse with the request and waiting for a "yes" or "no" answer.

email Garth, and be prepared to wait a VERY long time. It really depends on which blade you want (If they have any of that size/style already in the production cycle.) If you're wanting something totally from scratch, it's going to be a long wait.

The route I took was calling the shop and talking directly to Jerry.

and most of all...

5) tell him you want to buy a soul, and you have beer

.

pretty much whats said above.

you will probably either talk to garth or jerry directly, and they will ask you for a drawing or diagram of what you want with as many specifications as possible.

If its something that is no longer produced and does not have a blank anymore, you will probably be charged a full custom price rather then a semi custom price.

be prepared to wait a long, long, long time. It depends on what your getting, and how extensive the work is - but 2-7 years is about what I'm expecting on my orders. the wait time right now is stated at around 2-3 years, but I'm being on the safe side with my own orders so I don't get let down if something goes wrong in the shop or the just end up getting even more business then usual.
