I'm wondering in such a short period of time, this site has been able to compile such a volumonous, obscure, and timely body of knowledge. Do they had a monster staff of researchers? I'd like to know more how they came about and what they are about.

Cougar's right; go read:

Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

Basically, if you want to write an article about something, you can write/edit one and people will end up perfecting and occasionally detracting from it or vandalizing it (but it can be reverted). I think it's a great system. People who continuously vandalize pages have their editing priviledges revoked. I wrote the "pocket knife" article and then some other guys on BF.C added some pictures, links, and text. So if you know something about a topic that hasn't been written about, go try your hand at being an encyclopedia!

I have contributed heavily to these Wikipedia articles:

Brown Bear
Sarkastodon
Andrewsarchus
AIDS
American Bison
.44 Magnum
Khukri
