to put a roof on a house? Okay okay I know it's a weird question but I don't have time to call contractors today and I figure you guys seem to know everything else so... :) For reference I'm in the southeast united states and it's a 2100 square foot house, the roof pitch is moderate. Any ballpark figures for me? Are we talking like 2000 dollars here? 4000? 7000? I'm clueless at this point...
 
I can't provide an answer, but I can ask a question.... Do you just mean re-shingling the house, or shingles and new plywoood, or shingles, plywood, trusses? I'm assuming just the shingles, but ya never know.... :)
 
Ya might also want to ask if the workers speak english or not.

I had some gutters done and the crew didn't speak english and I had some questions. So they had to call their boss on the cell, hand it to me, then I'd ask the question, hand the phone back, etc etc.
 
What was the quality of the gutter work ? I had a large pool screen room built & the boss had some aliens working for him. He explained that through the language barrier they still understood enough to do good work by on-tyhe-job repetition & were becoming super achievers. He figured an inferiority complex caused this.

Just re-shingling (at least I assume that is all that needs doing fingers crossed...)
 
Had my house done about 6 years ago. Approx. 1400 sq. feet of roof with a moderate pitch. Stripped down to the wood with new paper and 25 year shingles. Estimates were from 3000 to 5000. Hope this helps.

if its a simple reshingle it should be between $2500 and $3000 mine cost $2200 last year...if they have to tear off and remove and replace wood etc..it could get expensive.

get a couple of quotes and also make sure the company is insured.

Better yet; do it yourself.

If you are the handy type. If not, get at least 2 estimates. My in laws had their roof redone last summer. it included a complete tear off of old cedar shakes, repaper, and reroof with some heavy, shake like asphalt 3 tab roofing. It cost just a tad over 11 grand for a 3500 square foot ranch style house.

The roofing material was like triple the cost of ordinary 3 tab, so cost may be much lower.
 
Did it myself and it cost $71,000.00.

$1,000 for the shingles and materials.

$70,000 for the medical bills after falling off the roof.............................
 
Get 2 crates of beer and a Pizza menu. Call 2-4 buddies, point to the roof and say 'Before' then point to the beer and menu and say 'After' :D
