So how tough is "Nuclear"?

Admittedly, I've not been wandering these forums for long. I've not been privy to ANY dissatisfaction with an INFI blade with regard to its durability.

But "Nuclear tough" has to have limits, right? Has anyone out there managed to break an INFI knife? Under what conditions of abuse were you able to bring about this astounding feat?

Also: What is the most bizzare amount of torture your Busse knives have withstood? Please, post a nifty picture of your most beaten Busse blade.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to feel out how harsh I want to be with my BME, because believe me when I say that I'm going to be as abusive as I want. This is merely for academic purposes.

. . . and for the gratification of seeing a Busse knife used for its purpose. Sheer torture. :D

Zal,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped by.

I've put some of my Busses through a lot of abuse(real abuse, prying, throwing, pounding on with a hammer) and they've all just laughed at me. If you are ever able to damage one without applying force from an external source you must be super-human :D:D

Let us know when you get your BM-e :D

Didn't Cliff Stamp break one after months of beating on it? I'll see if I can find that old pic. Anyone else remember that or did I make that up?

Yes, Cliff broke a Basic 7. It took him a bit over 2 years to do it and the blade was shorter and thinner then when new. It was abused way beyond what any normal person would expect any knife withstand.
As Jerry put it, "Cliff breaks knives. That's what he does."

If you do a search for Cliff Stamp, you should find the thread. The last time I looked at it, the pictures were gone, but you can get a pretty good idea as to the extent that the poor thing was mistreated.

I may have saved the thread. If I can find it, I'll post it here.

Cut Rope, wood, cable, and packing bands. Pryed nails, pallets, rocks, and a truck door. Dropped it out of a helicopter and ran over it with a truck. Used it as a tent peg and an ice piton. Pounded nails, knapped flint, and rendered an enemy combatant unconscious. Dug holes, built shelter, started fires with flint, skinned bears, gutted sharks, cleared fields of fire and cut a TV camera in two.

My SH1 is still shuckin' and groovin'. You need further proof?

Cool. It was the pics I was hoping to find. I knew he had beat on without mercy for a long time. Even being rough with your knife I bet it would take a lifetime or two to put what he did into it. And I guess we should point out that it was Modified INFI on the basic. I don't know what the difference is though. I figure that they are basically indestructable with normal abuse. I think you would need mechanical help and just be trying to break it on purpose to actually break it. Look at some of these "battered" pics. The finish is scuffed a little, but the blade is still fine. I wonder what that INFI is made of?:D The world may never know:p

SpearHead,

Your knife left a messsage on my voice mail last week. . . . She sounded ecstatic. . .something about how happy she was to have found her "soul mate". . . she said she gets constantly abused plus gets daily beatings!!! She said she couldn't be happier!!!!! ;)

I have to give it to you. . . you do know how to treat the ladies!!!!! ;)

I think the worse abuse I put mine through is not using them (except my SHSHII and MS).

Here is the shot comparing the Basic 7 in the shape it was in before it broke to a spec model :

and the full magnificance of my handle mods :

It snapped about an inch infront of the choil while being used for one of its regular duties which was to split wood with the aid of a mallet / hammer / some heavy object.

The blade was used extensively during the course of its lifetime, the final death blow was delivered by my brother who grew quite fond of the blade, and who had other wood splitting techniques when a hammer was not at hand :

In general the Busse blades stand out easily in regards to strength, toughness and durablity in general. This is not only in regard to the actual performance but the no hype attitude of the company and solid support. There are no double standards about promotional claims - the knives are promoted as being of a certain standard and are guaranteed to live up to it.

[some of the above techniques are extremely dangerous and should only be performed by or under the supervision of a professional maniac - if this actually has to be explained to you sharp objects should probably avoided]

I've literally tried to break my SH. I bent it about 20 degrees, and it just went back to straight. I've also split wood with it and a sledge hammer with no success in breaking it.

Trust me....you'll not break it :D

JD, is that you? ;)

Oh Man!

Cliff Stamp is in the house!!!!

He is "The Big MOAKA!!!" (The Biggest Mother Of All Knife Abusers)

There are more knifemakers that fear "The Big MOAKA" than there are knifemakers who fear grinding Cobalt-laden talonite without a respirator!!!!!

Of course, "The Big MOAKA" is our kinda guy!!!. . . and "NO" I am not Cliff Busse. . errrr. . . I mean Jerry Stamp. . . .errrr. . .I mean Cliff Stamp. . . .sorry about that. . . I've been accused of it so many times that even I get confused!!!! ;)
