so did anyone do any good opening day? we hunt near johnson city tx, i didnt make it this morning, spent the night at my girlfiends house and didnt get up in time lol, but my bud went and rattled up a 11 pointer, pretty good rack, after killing the 11 pointer they were heading to the barn to finish dressing it and my bud saw BIG buck, really a big one, we have seen him a time/2 for the last 3 yrs, probably a 5-6 yr old now, anyway they saw him down in a depression about 200 yards off, by bud said he was so big he started getting "buck fever" fumbling with cartriges and such, anyway he laid out across the bed of the truck took good aim and boom, he expected the deer to drop, after a second the deer turns and runs apparently unhurt, my bud couldnt believe it, a clean miss?? how could that be?? he was using a browning BLR in .308 w/a 3X9 redfield scope, anyway they went and looked, no blood, like i said a clean miss. after loading up and heading to the barn again, they get there and start to unload the 11 pointer and notice a groove and hole on the top of the bed of the truck, when my one bud shot at the big deer it was in a depression remember, well when he fired, and what he didnt see in the scopes field of view was the bed of the truck lol, the bullet dug about a foot long groove then dug in & went into the bed and then out the tailgate of the truck. it was the bucks lucky day, and my buds unlucky one lol. luckily it was just an old dodge hunting truck.
anyway i am packed up and leaving for the ranch in about 45 minutes and hope to see the big one again, wish me luck, and good luck to all you guys too, and be carefull and safe, its easy to mess up lol.
