So, I am about finished with my axe restoration and I have a question.

I want to spray paint the head red but I don't know which kind of spray paint to use. Umm, that is all.

I would get a can of paint with a red cap ...

Try Rust Oleuim Acrylic Enamel. You could also try a red engine spray enamel for a tough finish.

Yes. And clean it thoroughly to remove any trace of oils. But you know that the paint is gonna come off when you use it just the same, right?

That wouldn't surprise me because the head was originally red. I just think that an axe with a red head looks really sharp. Red is my favorite color after all.

This has alot of patina already so if I don't paint it I will leave it alone.

A painted axe head is not a bad thing at all. I have used implement paint with good results. Most auto parts stores have it. Made to match farm machinery and heavy equipment in a good selection of colors.

Got the last can of farm/tractor/implement paint my AAP had. It was on clearance.
I have put on the first coat of primer and am waiting the 10 min prescribed on the can for it to dry. I am thinking two coats of primer will be enough. Followed with one to two coats of paint.

Sitting on the front porch listening to Petra and watching the paint dry,
