and I hear a knock at the door. Threw on my housecoat and got the door. The mail lady had in her hand a few birthday cards for my GF, and underneath them a small flat package:thumbup: My new Orange Moran has arrived. This is going to be a great little utility fixed blade. Feels perfect in hand and came hair-popping sharp out of the box. Spyderco to me means "ergonomic" and this knife is a perfect example of that. I am also glad to see they have done away with tek-loks on their small fixed blade knives. The G-clips are much simpler, and more versatile IMO.

One question... right above where "Bill Moran" is etched on the blade are the numbers "114V", does that represent the number out of the sprint run?

Nope, that means you have a collector club numbered knife. The "V" stands for variation, some club members elect to only receive standard models, while others accept variations on those models (sprint runs and such).

The numbering means it's a Collector's Club knife. 200 knives of each variation get a number (001, 002, .. 199, 200). Since there aren't 200 members of the club (Who have to agree to buy pretty much every knife model put out by Spyderco), the extras go to dealers and thus to ordinary customers. It can increase the resale value a bit, I suppose.

The V means it's a variation of an original model.

Actually they only make numbered versions for the members, so not 200 total, but whatever the members have. If a number isn't assigned to a member it isn't made.

I don't think that's true. I have a non-variant CC knife bought NIB from a dealer, which shouldn't happen if Spyderco only engraves the claimed numbers.
