So I finally bit the bullet

I finally ordered myself an 18" AK with a horn handle. I can't wait for it to arrive.

I've been pondering this purchase for some time. A number of factors led to it finally happening. One of them is that I recently went camping with my brand new (but sharpened) Fiskars hatchet. It's a good solid hatchet, but I pretty much realized that while it does have an edge on khuks for splitting...

... it isn't all that great at splitting itself, because it's not really heavy enough for anything more than light splitting. Mostly what I'd be using it for is limbing and shelter building, which I gather khuks are better for anyway.

Of course, the final nail in the coffin was that I was browsing the stickied threads, and I came across this one, linked to in "Tips, Tricks, and Useful Finds": http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352196

I think I've deliberated enough, don't you? (Look at the datestamp on the first post.)

Congratulations on your buy, better late than never!

I've had my first Khuk (20" CAK) for a few weeks now and can't wait to take it camping. You'll be pleasantly surprised with how well these perform in chopping and splitting. Please let us know how it works out for you, and welcome aboard!

Congrats:)

Be careful, khuks tend to multiply when you aren't looking. I keep giving mine away to friends here and there, but every time I look I still have a trunk full of them...and several in my office...and a few in my truck...one in my jeep....um, 4 or 5 by the bed...:D

Congrats on contracting "The Virus" (HIKV).
Your Pride will swell and your wallet will wither.....And you may end up with the odd nervous tic when viewing the DOTD. but otherwise you'll feel just fine.

unless you're married.then you have the added sympyoms of begging and whining.

Just So's you all know....I'll take any unwanted khuk's and 'BiT's, even damaged ones, as i like to refurbish em as best i can. Except for the Tripoz kerambit i just put a set of black walnut slab grips on, i have nothing to work on 'cuz my Tiny H.I, Collection is far to pretty to be messin' with.

Haha, funny you should mention that. I'm not married, but the very special girl I'm pursuing at the moment looooooves knives. She doesn't know anything ABOUT them though, so I get to look all awesome and knowledgeable. ;) She got visibly excited when I showed her I could shave hair off my arm with my Spyderco Endura. I have a sneaking suspicion she'll love my new khuk almost as much as I will. ;)

It came! Droooooooooool. FAST shipping, too. If I'd paid for express shipping it probably would have showed up the day before I ordered. :)

I had to leave it at home and go to work, when I get home tonight I'll take some pictures.

The funny thing is how I was totally expecting it to be huge, and my first thought upon unsheathing it was still: "This thing is GIGANTIC!"

Now I just need to find someone with a yard that needs to be cleared of brush. :)

Marry her.

This from someone opposed to the institution of marriage.

Marital or martial aids?

Actually, they become "honeycuts," as in "Honey, could you cut this for me, you've got the bigger khukuri."

Now then all He's not as sick as the rest of us yet remember He did leave the kukri at home all alone to go to work. What neglect!!!
