So I FINALLY bought a decent sharpener!

Best advice i could give...make sure the edge of the blade just barely sticks out over the edge of the system. Also the mistake i made the most when first learning to use the edge pro was too much pressure on the stones. Just glide the stones over the blade lightly and allow the stones to do the work. Anywho like i said just barely have the blade edge protruding over the base of the sharpener. Oh yeah a Sharpy and some patience will help too.

Good luck!

Keep us posted on your progress. I'm in the market for a sharpening system and having always sharpened freehand with just okay results, I'll be very interested in your results. :D

Congrats on getting your Apex (s)!! My sharpening life has changed in this last year with my Apex 4, no longer have a need to send my knives in for sharpening...just takes practice and a light touch as mentioned above.

Try using the "Sharpie" trick on the edge, keep the table clean and soak the stones in water for an hour or so before you go to work...they like a bit of soap in the water as well, makes sharpening go faster and the results are worth the time to learn the system.

Cheers~!

Good advice guys. The angle is a bit tough to find, wish the angle indicators were marked better. Sharpie is the way to go. Works very well following the tips mentioned.

PS. Mods, sorry I put this in the wrong place.
