Its a wonderful knife but it has horizontal blade play.

When I tighten the pivot screw, It becomes stiff when opening and closing.
If I leave it loose, It has blade play. Any ideas?

Assuming you have Loctite, preferably 243, and some oil,

I'd loosen the pivot screw out,
apply Loctite to threads,
reassemble to a loose fit,
lube pivot,
then slowly (1/8 turn or so at a time) adjust pivot till the blade starts to get stiff operating,
back off a 1/10 turn, and
let the loctite set up.

Some knives a rather touchy to pivot screw tension.

If the above doesn't work send it back. It shouldn't do that under normal clean conditions.

The sweet spot can be hard to find. When you turn the pivot screw, do it literally one hair at a time. As little turn as you can manage.

Good news with 243 Loc-tite is there's plenty of time to make those adjustments. My 710D2 came out of box sloppy, no adjustments would last long. With a little 243 there's no more problems, and no return trip needed to Benchmade.

As the other Gents have said, any blade play can be removed with a combination of lubrication and pivot adjustment.

And yes, the sweet spot is very exact. The tiniest, almost unnoticeable rotation of the T10 Torx driver will make all the difference.

Again, it shouldn't be considered as normal. Just try to lube the pivot and find the sweet spot for the tension. Use a little blue loctite to keep it in place. :)

my 930 has been flawless since the month the knife came out so id say that warrants sending the knife to bm
