Yup, that Swayback caught my eye! And John ground me out a real nice blank form 1/16" O1, and finally today while the plumber was putting in a new water heater I fiddled around a bit with the blank.

first I made a couple of balsa mock ups and did a little sanding on them till I got to where I liked the finger stop area in a peeling veggie type grip ( this is going to be a dedicated kitchen knife). Then fired up my glass grinder and took a little bit of steel off the grip area.

Drilled holes to match the pin holes into some blue Paperstone that was gifted to me by Pertinux, traced and cut out the slabs...

After glueing the slabs to the blank I took a stroll out to my high tech knife mfg facility :p and did some rough shaping in of the handles. (different knife in pics)

One does need to make a few test cuts with a new knife :D

Still needs pins installed ( going nickel silver on this one) and final shape and sanding, but so far I really like the way this knife feels in hand.

Thanks for looking,
And thank You John!

Very cool. I love the blade and I'm betting you're going to love the 1/16 steel. It will be a fantastic kitchen knife.
That blue is cool too. Sarah did a great job finding it.

Thanks man, I knew I was gonna like Johns steel in a 1/16 blade, this baby sings a song of sharp:D

Looks awesome, can't wait to see how it progresses, 1/16" sounds like it's be a very good choice for the SSB.

thanks for the pictures, and good luck on the water heater :)

Very nice!

Thank you for taking time to post your progress pictures. I am amazed at what you can accomplish with the simplest of tools.

There is an interesting pattern coming out in the paperstone.

Thanks again for your pictures!

Got er done today! I am loving this thing, the paperstone finished up to a polished stone like lustre, feels oh so good in my meathooks :D
I can't wait to get a nice butternut squash and see how this scandivex edge does on peeling it!

Thanks guys! Tonight it helped with dinner and I just had to have it plate side to cut up my chicken and sweet tater :D

Wow!

Fantastic work on that one, too. That paper stone looks amazing all polished up. Almost like a marble.

Is it grippy like canvas micarta at a high polish, or slick?

Glad you asked that...when dry and( my hands tend to have very dry skin) it feels a little slick, not slippery though.
Here's the kicker, when my hands are wet the grip increases on this stuff incredibly. You would think just the opposite would happen. It is a truly amazing material, and now I'm afraid I will be on a quest for more scraps of this stuff!
