So I got a wild hair and had some fixed blades built. What do you guys think?

A number of you have seen the prototypes throughout the years, and I've finally gotten some finished pieces. Behold -

cmk-m18a1.jpg

1/4" thick S30V, heat treat done by Bos before he stopped doing it himself. Around 12.5" long overall. Stonewashed finish, phenolic handles. Spec Ops Brand sheath.

The idea was to make a fixed blade that was well suited for a variety of field tasks typically performed by the average Joe Trooper. Digging, chopping, prying, and most importantly, cutting. That 1/4" thick spine has pretty high grind lines to let it cut where it needs to, but be thick enough to take abuse; it's not just a sharpened pry bar.

What do you guys think?

Is the handle tapered, or is it the photo?

I like the looks and I like the 1/4" stock.

Where's it balance at?

it looks like a very handy pig-sticker but I also wonder about the thumb if used in reverse grip. But is the tip blunted??? It looks not-so-pointy in the pic.

The tip on this one is slightly rounded, good eye. About half of them have the slight rounding, the other half are "normal" "pointy" style.

I don't have one here at the house so I'll have to get photo's tomorrow of how it looks in a reverse grip, where the balance is, etc. The handle end is pretty long, it's supposed to be for smashing / prying but really I like liked the look of it when it was extended.

seems pretty good to me, though truth be told i think a passaround is in order ;)

Beautiful, beautiful design....

....and the Memphis Tigers are going to throw UL a beating in December!:D

I like it, looks like it could fill the utilitarian capacity very well. The lack of a blocky handle is something we don't see much.

Looking at the overall length again, with the size it's not as important to thumb-cap so it's probably better as is. I like that the handle shape is very neutral and a swelled up middle is best for keeping any shifting of the knife in hand to absolute minimum.

I was thinking of a folder with similar thick blade profile the other day.

Here's the photos I promised. Hopefully this gives you a better idea as to what's up.

Reverse Grip photo for you. Overall size on the knife is 12.375" - 6.5" blade, 5" handle. 12 oz. Balance is just before the 1st screw in t

Spine view of the handle and scales. As you can see, there's a slight taper but the scales themselves are about 1/4" thick

Super thick pointy sharp end

Keep one put aside for me that I can grab when one of these civilian jobs actually sticks :)

I noticed you have a name for it and wonder if you got some other stuff cooking up

the price will determine the difference between this being the best thing since sliced bread and just being awesome.

Cool beans! Not what I personally look for in a knife, but PERFECT for what you designed it for! Very well thought out!:thumbup:

I like it - will definitely be looking forward to the production run.

Hi Spark -

That is a good looking knife. Are these available?

best regards -
