So I got my 16 today and realized I had been ripped off....

I received my BK16 today along with my BK10. Several months ago I did some long distance trading for the 16- when I got it I ended up immediately selling it because it was too light and the tip was blunted by the previous owner....who claimed it was brand new. However I decided to give it another chance because I found it at a good price. As soon as I put my hands on my new 16 today, I knew instantly that the knife I had received a few months ago was a fake. This 16 is heavier, better balanced, and an all around beefier knife than the one I had a few months ago, its a completely different knife. I won't post the forum members name who traded that to me because in all honesty he may not have known. Traders beware, there are counterfeits out there!

Dang Doc. I wish you would have photo'd the thing or done a review. Having that kind of information Now would be gold, and really really helpful to us all.

Well, at least you got a real one.

Didn't know they were making fake BK16 now.
Not surprised though. There's quite a few fake Chinese ESEE knives going around too.
Guess its always better to stick with reputable dealers than go with the cheapest deal.
Thanks for the warning.

fakes?

need data.

need pictures.

need more.

Im glad you like your new one where are the pics of your old one?

I really wish I had some pics of the old one to show you guys. It was definitely a different knife than the one I have now. I remember holding the old one and thinking "wow I can't believe how much lighter this is than the BK17 I held at the store". I figured the 16 would be lighter because a flat grind has less metal than the sabre- but this was literally half the weight, which is why I sold it as I like knives with a little heft. The 16 I have now feels much closer in weight to the 17 and the fit and finish are head and shoulders above that prior pos. The scales on the knockoff did not fit the tang of the knife well at all, but this one is perfect. I don't have it in front of my to prove it, but I know there's no way its the same knife as I am holding now.

So now that I have a real one, I can definitely see what all the fuss is about....this thing is incredible!! It will definitely replace my Tops BOB as my go-to "bushcraft" knife. Good job on Ethan to go with the 5/32" thickness, I think it's perfect for this size knife.

I can't believe you let that one go. That was a Prototype of the new LLB knife. (Lightweight Lethal Bushknife)

Ethan released a few into the general population for testing. He wasn't sure if he could source enough Balloonium, or Hydrogen Infused Aluminum as it is commonly known, to go into full production.

Tests have shown that the BK-9 ULCB (Ultra Lightweight Combat Bowie) made of Balloonium is actually weightless, if it wasn't for the Grivory handles, it would float away.

Man that knife will be a serious collector some day.

Okay, your first one, did it look like this?

And did your second one look like this?

Just trying to establish clearly that your first wasn't just a FFG and the second a saber ground model. The weight difference between the two is quite noticeable, and would certainly make one feel like they were getting something else if they had compared it to the BK17, which is also a saber grind and weighs a considerable amount different from the FFG 16.

I WISH my second one looked like that. They were both FFG

I was able to get in touch with the gentleman I sold the fake 16 to. I explained the situation to him and offered to buy the knife back. He said that the knife was for his 15yr old son who broke it within a week trying to throw it at a tree. I asked if he had tried to contact KaBar, but he said he didn't because he figured the blade broke due to his son using it for purposes other than what it was intended for. I offered to give him back his money because I felt bad, but he declined because he couldn't be certain that it was actually a knock off.

Good on you man, that was an honorable thing to do.
Now that you have cleared you conscience you can enjoy your new knife.

Okay, is this BS or for real:confused:

I would like to laugh at you for being so gullible, but I was confused at first too! I had to reread to make sure he was being sarcastic. For a second I thought, "Damn did I really let an ultralight prototype go?"

Now I can't say with 100% certainty that it was a fake because I can't compare it with what I know to be a real one. But after I learned that the blade broke, I feel pretty confident that it was a fake. Either that or it was a 16 with terrible heat treat and badly fitted scales...you guys can be the judge. Just be careful!
