I'm very, very happy with it at this moment.

CRKT M18-02

This is the sharpest knife I've ever had, out of box. Slices paper easily. The ergonomics are great for my hand. No blade play whatsoever, open or while opening. Locks up great and I like the lock it has to disable the framelock. Feels nice and solid, metal handles like I wanted.

I paid 22$ for this, I don't know what normal prices are, but got it brand new from a camping store.

Now a few questions. First off, what are general thoughts on this knife line? Second, the grip inserts feel VERY grippy, but I'm just worried they might peel off. I think the blade steel is AUS8, but it didn't say on the blade or packaging.

Oh well, I'm content. This is my first real folder and as of now I'm so satisfied with it that I'm considering buying another this week. Seems like a steel at the price I paid.

I found this info on another site

M18-02K: M18 Carson Folder. 4 3/8" closed linerlock featuring the LAWKS safety system. AUS-8 stainless spear point blade with frost finish. Anodized aluminum frame with black G-10 inlays. Removeable pocket clip.

as far as the panels coming off don't worry about it. if they do just fixem.
enjoy your knife. ahgar

Good knife. CRKT has inexpensive but well-made knives, as long as you watch out for the steel used. They have switched to lower-end steels on a few models recently.

Yours is one of the Carson-designed folders, which are excellent. Only those with Zytel handles use lesser steels.

Indeed. This knife has made me even more eager to get my first Spyderco and Benchmade. It's quality is remarkable compared to the sub 8$ folders I'm used to. The sharpness, ergonomics, weight, balance, locking quality...everything is great on it.

I think my next purchases will be another of these, Buck 110 Hunter (They have these where I got my new job, seeing one everyday makes me want one :) ), Benchmade Monochrome or other Red Class folder and Spyderco Endura or Delica, maybe a Byrd series blade to save some cash.

Esav: Thanks for the info. Makes me feel even more sure about buying a back-up.

Definitely go for the Buck 110 for heavy duty. These are SOLID little knives. You can get the Buck 112 for a smaller version if you like.

I haven't handled the Byrds but all the feedback I've read has been positive. The latest Spyderco that's impressed me is the Endura 4 (or the smaller version, the Delica 4). These are upgrades of their flagship knife, heavier duty and with an improved blade, too.

I see walmart is selling Spyderco Natives for 40$. I'm tempted to get one. I handled one a few weeks ago and it seemed somewhat difficult to open for me one-handed. I might go up there tonight and see if they have them and if I could hold it some.

It might be worth practicing that opening. I think the Native is the best all-around utilty folder that Spyderco makes. I'm back down to just one of them again because I keep giving them away to people who need a good knife.

Secure grip, strong blade, unobtrusive to carry. The Native III is my (slight) favorite over the others. One of the few knives I like in all-serrated, although serrated is specialized, and I'd recommend you get a plain edge first.

$22 is a great price!
Ditto that--I think I probably paid at least $45 used and mine was a good deal at the time. It's a really good knife and I also liked the LAWKS--never needed it but it's good to know it's there. I EDC'd mine for a long time and never had any problems with the inserts so I wouldn't worry about it. Index flipper makes it really easy to open and it's just a solid knife. Good choice at a great price.

Nice knife and good price. Please write a review after you have used it for several months.

Will do. No complaints so far but I did notice that mine is designed for tip-down carry in the pocket. What I don't understand is how tip-up carry is safer, as some people here have mentioned. Seems like it would be the opposite to me.

Those are hard to come by. They are still being sold at AG Russell for $90.
The M16 is one of my favorite knives of all time and my favorite for sure from CRKT. I have the M16-13SF myself. Love it. Can be waved open with the extra flipper.

Don't know about safety but I won't have a pocket clip'd folder that I can't carry tip-up. Of course, that goes for the AXIS lock also.

If you haven't already, check out the Benchmade AXIS folders. One you go AXIS, you never go back! ;)

I never had this knife or any of my tip-up knives open in my pocket. Maybe I'm just lucky. I found this knife to be very reliable. AXIS is cool. Got one yesterday. Little too small for me. I am selling it right now.

Grats on your new 'buddy'.
Like most have said CRKT is a decent company , they put out knives for us "working poor" :D to buy and use. I own a Prowler and use it as my edc , the price was low enough that I wont get too awful bummed if I lost it or whatever and the quality gets me where I need to be every time I use it.
The M16 is pretty darn popular , isnt the clip reversable though ?
