BLAM!

Obviously this is also my first AXIS lock and now I get it. A lot of people say the flipper is too heavy but I dont feel it myself. That probably comes from carrying a 110 for so long. I have a small hand so it's a perfect fit, which is sad because that means it's just too small for the majority of others. I think I'll move the clip to the front side as I am a pocket lefty but right handed.

I was on the fence about a grip untill I got this in my hand. I know the grip is lighter and the scales are plastic but I want to get some aftermarket ones and try to make my own as well in micarta. I can only assume at this point that the AXIS functionality is identical to this if not better with the longer blade. So I think I'll pop on the coated blade with OD scales.
Really liking the Idea of the coated blade with deep red micarta scales and a black back spacer.

Any thoughts on grip mods??

I love mine, got the tan version, took the thumb stud off immediately.

It's a good looking knife...grip's always been a little small for me so I agree with what you said as my hands are average.

Micarta will not just look great, but it will perform great too. My favorite thing about micarta which sets it apart from even the awesome G10 is how micarta gets much grippier when wet...like more so than when it is dry (this is course referring to micarta that hasnt had the pores sealed.) I see this as a plus as a lot of times the actual cutting done when knives get wet are the types of cutting in which slipping is more probable and will cause a nastier wound by default.

As far as the coatings go, unless you are getting it done in something like a true DLC (which will get expensive), coatings a real PITA. They often wear in a fashion that shows cosmetic markings more so than any other finish. Stonewashed is the way to go for maximum durability IMO and I think it looks best of all finishes as well.

Oh yeah it's comfy! Feels just like the perfectly fit glove that I can never find LOL.

PNSXYR--> I've got some first hand experience with wet micarta. It really is cool stuff. I've got a bunch of old carharrts lying around that I've been saving for micarta specifically.

When you do the grips, please do post pics. Micarta is such an awesome material and I've come to really like that 'tough' look it has. I think it matches really well with the stonewashed finish such as what many of the Chris Reeve Sebenzas have. G10 is great but there is just something about micarta that I love!

Not sure if this is useful for you but IIRC Chris Reeve uses 3M's VHB tape to bond the micarta inlays to the titanium. I believe they opted for it because VHB gives a bonding that is better than most anything else and it is very good at withstanding a variety of different extremes (it's used to hold many airplane parts together!)

Thanks that is usefull!
I'm waiting on an OD Griptilian with a black coated blade to come in. I want to do that one in red micarta with a black G-10 back spacer. I will definately post pics of the whole process. I'm going to do the milling of the scales with a Dremmel plunge router. can't wait.
