I had some points with Amazon and used them on a whim to buy the Black DLC Salt. Part of my long list of......I have way too many Spydies.....

So why did Spyderco decide to use DLC on this blade? Just curious.

My humble opinion...mostly looks. There might be a few pros, though. Might give it even better rust protection. Usually. DLC wears fairly easily.

I keep a salt in my day pack and camping trips. its a nice addition to the spyderco Family, in any case.

I thought DLC is only available on Golden built knives? IDK

Hope this helps.

Cheers, battle

Yeah seems DLC was the wrong term, as it is Titanium CarboNitride. I just found a Sal post where he said the black Salt was a US Military spec blade that they also sell to the public.

Dont know, but I'm hoping for a serrated version of the black blade...It would look great with either the yellow or black FRN. For me it is simply because of looks AND maybe because bare H1 scratches very easy so there is some benefit there.

^^

10-4. I figured that's what you meant " Titanium CarboNitride".

And you are correct, a lot of Blacked out knifes are because of military specs. especially high end manufactures, who want to build knifes for LE or Military personal. No one wants the "Shine/reflection" to give away a/.any position.

I like the Blacked out salt. Its really cool.

I never understood that... My badge is shiny

The TiCN coated Pacific Salt holds an NSN and is issued to pilots in the U.S. Navy and USMC. The black coating was at the request of NAVAIR. Following a rigorous testing process the Pacific Salt was the only knife unanimously approved for carry.

Nice.....So it is truly tactical and cool!

Good to know. Its nice to also know spyderco was chosen to build and make this for our military personal. and it sounds like the knife was put to the test.

Great information. Thanks for sharing.
