So I had to start tinkering with new BK2 (pics)

I did some stippling of various depths on the front half of the handle, nothing purdy but it feels nice:

Against my better judgement and advice on here I removed coating on a portion of the top for firesteel/flint striking. I'm not terribly worried about the aesthetics, but it simply won't throw sparks from my cheapy wal mart magnesium/ flint firestarter. Playing around with said firestarter, it seems much cheaper and more difficult than the ones they used to make. it only wants to spark with the little included hacksaw blade and even that wears it out at an absurd rate. So I've got a swedish firesteel on order. My real question is, should I buff out the filing on that top little section with a dremel and flitz, or grind some sort of notches into blade to facilitate better use of firesteel? Just not sure if texture, or smooth sharp edges throw the most sparks with the least amount of flint damage.

And here's where stuff got silly reallly fast.

the moment I unboxed the BK2 I knew EDC without a pack of some sort would be rather difficult. For the moment I ordered a tec loc, am working on leaving the knife jammed halfway out of the holster a lot to loosen it up a bit, and scraping the idea of becoming a bowie knife carrying psychopath. Only way I can imagine it not throwing out my lower back is some kinda shoulder holster, which I might try to figure out eventually, but I'm going to just play with the tec lock for a while and actually get used to using the knife for whacking on twigs and whatnot.

It'll be a work in progress. All in all I'm amazed at the beefy blade on this knife, and I'm sure I'll be forkin out money for micarta and leather when funds allow :D

Congrats on the new steel! It's always fun to try and figure out how it's gonna work for you.
I would go with the smooth finish on the spine. It'll work fine with a good fero rod. If you're not happy then you can always add texture or something later. Keep us posted!

with a good rod, you should have much trouble throwing sparks on the flat edge. It's possible that the remaining coating on the perpendicular side of the blade might be causing you trouble. Just strip the whole thing and then you can use the whole spine to get a good spark...imho.

Due to my torso girth (read extra pounds), I couldn't stand having mine ride that high...but it looks like a cool rig.

I would DEFINITELY get micarta scales...not personally a fan of the dimpling mod. But loving where you're going with it all.
