Decided to strip my Basic 3 since I had Garth put a new edge on it. The zero edge is great but looked funny with the black coating. I also stripped my Mudd Mutt as I plan on using it more in the kitchen and wanted the easier cut and easy cleaning of a polished blade. The Mudd Mutt came out okay, but was a real pain to strip. The Basic 3 came out amazing. I spent three times as much time on the Mudd Mutt without nearly the same result. The Basic 3 looks almost like a factory satin job. I am more than happy about how they both came out, especially the Basic 3.

The thought had crossed my mind RAD, but I am going to keep working on it. If it doesn't work out, I'll be sending it to you.

No, no, no; not him. He'll just grind it on a rock or something.

Send it to me.

Thanks, I fear that I am favoring the satin or polished look over coated and will be converting more of my collection.

It looks better and performs better. I don't even know why companies coat blades.

I bought a coated blade once, gave it away it was so nasty.

Coated blades are prevalent due to reduced production costs and in turn reduced retail prices. There are also many who perceive coated blades to gain them a performance increase believe it or not, as a large number of people are haunted by the thought of rust on their high dollar cutlery.
