We made the trip to the NC mountains to celebrate Christmas with my in-laws this past weekend. Typically when they ask I just say that I dont need any gifts, or if they insist some cash is always great. This usually leaves me with random gifts, some okay some not. This year I decided to just point them to my favorite knife store, and ask for anything GEC. I did mention that I was interested in a wooden handle.

I would say they came through! I got my first wooden, first trapper, and first serialized GEC all in one in this #48 trapper in Mexican bocote. Are these nickel silver bolsters?

Oh my, that is a beaut! That pattern has such lovely lines and the grain pattern on the pile side is stunning.

O

They did well! My wife tried to buy me a knife a couple of times, but has since given up and just gives me other random gifts:)

I'm a guy who generally doesnt show a lot of excitement with gifts, especially because I hate being the center of attention. I think they got a kick out of watching me geek out over this one.

Although the most satisfying part is having my father in-law tell me what a great husband I am to his daughter, and great dad to his grandson. :)

Congratulations on that 48! It is a great pattern. Those are Nickel Silver bolsters on your model.

You chose the right woman and family. Well done!

Wow, that was a nice gift. The in laws have a good eye, too!

Excellent! Maybe I need to be more direct with my in-laws about my "wants" when it comes to gifts.

The secret to your luck is that your in-laws live in the NC mountains. Merry Christmas from the Piedmont.

What a great gift. You sir are a lucky man to have in-laws that evidently like you.
