Whilst under the influence of my prescription lunesta I decided to play around with different methods of finishing. I'm not going to go into a huge amount of detail because there are still a lot of tweaks to be made. On the later pic the black spots are the most obvious mistakes.

This was all done on an Ontario Rat 1 AUS8 steel blade with no form of masking whatsoever and no heat treating whatsoever, My brain is full of wut.

DAT RESOLUTION WHY DID I DO THIS

It may be hard to see, but some of the metal is actually a light blue. This is not a reflection and it's much more visible to the eye.

It's far easier to see in this one. Despite it looking rusty as all hell the surface feels almost exactly the same as it did before, just a little bit more matte.

On this side I didn't do quite as nice a job, though I wasn't actually picking sides, this happened by chance really. The mistakes were my fault though, but I'm sure I can keep layering finishes and get those a little more subtle.

So, how about a little bit of detail?

If you had not referenced it to Fallout I would not have liked it but I can totally see the Fallout look!

What are your plans for the frame/handle/scales?

Thanks for the sharing

This was done using electro-etching methods. Multiple ways of doing it, layering and then sanding with 3000 grit pads.
