I love this thing. I was surprised at how light it is, and the fit and finish is just extraordinary. This blade is truly a work of art. This definitely is not going to be a safe queen, and I can't keep my hands off of it. Which leads me to a question I havent really been able to find the answer for. How much will the lockup stand up to repeated opening/closing? I'm just trying to avoid playing around with it and constantly opening and closing it, but sometimes it's just to tempting. So, I realize its pretty much impossible to actually come up with figures, but generally how much do repeated openings increase the wear on it to a point that I have to send it back in?

Well the Sebenza, from what I hear, is supposed to be able to last a life time. You can open and close your Sebenza all day every day and enjoy every moment of it!

Lock up "in spec" is 50-75% if I recall and there are many that have exceeded 75%, but have never had any issues from what I've read. I haven't seen a Sebenza with the lock bar 100% engaged.

All in all I don't think you have to worry about a thing.

Thats reassuring. I know it is a quality knife and will easily last a lifetime with proper maintenance, but there has to be some point at which repeated openings render the locking mechanism too far gone. I fiddle with my knives a lot. At work I am playing with them endlessly. I'll have to try and break that habit with this knife as it's the first quality knife I've owned (besides my bm balisongs, which are obviously designed to be fiddled with)

I've never worn a frame lock to the point where it had to be sent back.

I think it would take years.

A lot of Sebenza owners post that their Sebbie locks up in the same position as when they bought it, and those posting have had theirs for years.

My current Sebenza is only 7 months old, so I cannot vouch for wear, but mine hasn't budged.

friend i work with had a sebenza from his father. sent it in to CRK for a tune up. came back with a new locking side. so, needless to say...

CRK knows how to take care of customers, so dont woory

this may be a dumb question... but what do the % of lockup mean? i see it a lot and im not really sure. thanks for putting up with me!

If you look at your opened and locked knife with the blade pointing away from you, note where the right edge (on a right handed knife) of the lock bar is relative to the entire thickness of the blade tang. If the right edge is all the way over to the right and is touching the non-lock slab, that would be 100% (actually over 100%), if the right edge is all the way on the left edge of the tang (almost ready to fall off and unlock) that would be 0%.

Does that help?

The moon watch was really my greatest acquisition. When I got out of the car hobby I decide to go ahead and get my dream watch. I love it and have an unnatural attachment to it. The sebenza is pretty much my dream knife second to what would probably be a very difficult to get pabu balisong.

So 100% would be totally under the blade and 0% pretty much not locking the blade?

I'm a watch guy too so I know exactly where you're coming from. You should go to phase 2 - get a small Seb. and a Seamaster or Planet Ocean.

Haha

Oh trust me that planet ocean is tugging at me everyday. They'll be going up in price though with omega getting rid of all the AD's and putting the 8500 movement in the PO's.

You see what you're doing there, right? Already rationalizing the purchase of a PO - best get to it before those prices go up again!!! Typical WIS. Haha Ohh... and don't forget the small Seb.

I'll just wait until the liquid metal version is old and out dated junk, where I'll pick it up in a pawn shop for $50.
