and I like it! I don't know what it is about Spyderco Knives, but they have never really done it for me design wise. I don't know is it was the hole or the blade shapes (probably a combo of the two to be honest), but I just could not warm up to them....I decided to take a chance on what seems to be a very popular model, the Paramilitary 2 as my first. I have to say, so far ( I just got it today, but you know how sometimes a knife just FEELS right) I'm really liking it. It came razor sharp and smooth opening, the compression lock seems very solid (I'm usually more of a Ti frame lock person). I can't wait to see how it holds up at work (cutting a range of diffferent materials from reinforcing fabrics , to neoprene flashing to bentonite clay carpet) as I am always putting my disposable utility knife down somewhere or lending it out to co-workers, but my pocket knife is always on me. Anyways, here's a few quick pics before its gets dirty, I'll update with my impressions(and pics) as I get to know it better. I really like the way the black coating contrasts with the camo G10

Nice one man, I got a camo one coming in the mail this week as well. Nice pics!

That is a great starting blade!!!! my first was a sprint foliage manix 2. Just make sure you dont come on here too much. but that is one of my favorite blades...beat the crap outa it for me will ya??

I know im doing that to my sprint one...s90v just doesn't dull

I felt the same way before I got one - my first was a Taiwan model and I was blown away with the quality, fit and finish.

Its been a high bar to set, and I've not been satisfied with my collection yet as it seems to keep growing :)

Great choice for sure!

I was not too pleased with the Spyderco design myself for a long time.

Took me a while but then one day it just hit me I guess, now I love the design and looks of every one of them.

I used to feel the same way. Spyderco knives just seemed a little weird to me until I finally broke down and bought a g10 delica. Now I cant seem to get enough of spyderco! I got a camo para 2 a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT. I think it is my new favorite folder. I cant seem to find anything about it that I dont like. I was a little unsure about the compression lock at first but after playing with it a little I figured out how to flip the blade closed with one hand and now I can deploy/stow the knife as fast as I can with an axis lock BM. In fact, I dig this knife so much that last night I ordered a backup para 2 with black scales.

Nice choice for your first Spyderco.

I have that exact knife, and it is by far my favorite. The black DLC blade and digital camo just looks perfect together. I love how the blade opens extremely smooth yet has zero blade play and locks up like a vault. The only problem with picking this Para 2 as your first Spydie is that you might have trouble finding another one that you like more. You might have just saved yourself a lot of money...

Congratulations! Good choice for your first Spyderco. A year from now, we'll see how many Spyderco's you have owned or own. :)

Congrats on your first Spyderco! I have many knives from other manufacturers, which has led me to one conclusion - Spyderco is quite simply the best production knife manufacturer there is. Enjoy your knife.

Congrats on your first spydie! Great pictures, I love the black blade with the camo. Excellent choice.

Oh man, you've done it now...

Back in '95 I bought my first Spydie (Dragonfly) just to see what all the hype was about and the rest is history - I have over 40 Spyderco's at last count. I ordered a Zulu, Persian 2, and a G-10 dragonfly last month.

That's my favorite spydie so far too. Just great ergos, size and blend of qualities for me. It's kicked everything else out of my pocket.

For the price, it is a whole lot of knife!

Thanks guys, I am LOVING this knife! It hasn't left my pocket for 5 days now. I even took it with me fishing in the Keys this past weekend, worked great cutting up bait fish, and after a 8 hours of being covered in fish blood and guts and salt water, it still looks good as new( other than a bit of light coating wear. It's a great knife!

You really do have to hold and use a Spyderco to actually appreciate it. Some (many? most?) might look ugly to the eye, but feel great in the hand and cut like a breeze. Conversely, many knives by other brands might look sexy, but are uncomfortable to hold and have blade grinds that don't cut well.

I received the same exact knife last night. I was also impressed. My first higher end folder was a Spyderco Progrip half serrated. I was impressed with the weight and quality, but the VG10 blade did not come razor sharp and it was a pain trying to keep it sharp. That was 7 years ago and I've come a long way with sharpening techniques. The second was a Spyderco cricket, great little money clip. The Para2 will be my third Spyderco folder and its in my right pocket now. The Para2 has that amazing S30V blade, which came super razor sharp slicing paper. The feel of the handle was perfect for my hand. The action was smooth and the blade sits in the middel of the handle. I plan to sand down the handle around the clip so it will slip easier into my pocket. The size is also perfect. I almost purchased a Chris Reeve Sebenza, but this will do for now.

I'm really loving mine too. It has been in my pocket or in my hand constantly for the past week since I got it. From what I have read, that DLC coating is really tough stuff. Most of the time when you see marks on it, the coating isn't scratched but something is on top of it and can be cleaned off and look almost like new again.

Here are some pics of mine. I'm seriously glad I picked the digicam and black blade, I'm really digging the look.
