So I just tried this to sharpen my knives...

So yesterday I accidentally dulled my Emerson Commander with a stupid bench stone I have that is crappy... and that made me angry. But then I realized those knives were made with softer 154cm than benchmade and remembered Emerson made them to be able to be sharpened in the field with almost anything. So I gave it a try to use a ceramic coffee mug... and IT WORKED!

So then tonight I wondered if the same would work on my Benchmade 520 Presidio (my other EDC)...

Both the same steels, but the BM is harder. My Presidio was already pretty sharp, but now they are both hair shaving sharp!

That's cool! Makes sense too. I remember sharpening my knife in. Reserve parachute handle (metal)

I am so shocked that it worked! I had ordered a spyderco sharp maker due to being frustrated that I dulled my emerson with my bench stone. But now this makes all of that pointless. lol. I just need to stock up on coffee mugs.

Ceramic coffee cups and bowls, for that matter, can work just fine in a pinch. With cup or bowl turned over I run the edge of my knife along the ring. Think of it as a round Sharpmaker.

The ground edge of the glass on older truck windows works darned well too. Roll the window down a little and use the radiuses edge. I have brought an edge back on skinning knives many times this way.
