So I need a backup blade...

We were implementing new procedures as far as decon goes and basically if WMDs are deployed I'm loosing everything including my favorite rocketship underpants. I mean they will give me back my watch and dog tags (maybe) but rest of my equipment goes bye bye. Oh yeah Im a paramedic in NYC.

So I really dont worry about my duty belt since most of the stuff there is expendable or has no sentimental value. My blade is a totally different story. I carried sebenza until I had it customized and bought Microtech Terzuola as my EDC. Also when on the job I carry spyderco assist. So... Microtech is a $300 knife. I don't want to loose it so I need a work backup. Now I have my work edc gear and off duty edc gear.

My requirments:
-blade under 4 inches
-easy opening
-secure lock
-solid
-no serrations
-no slip handle
-around $100 maybe bit more

Any ideas? I was thinking M16 from CRKT but I hate serrations.

Thanks,

Matt

How about an Al Mar SERE 2K: 3.6" VG10 blade, solid liner lock, and a comfortable and secure G10 handle.

Benchmade 805 TSEK. Solid, but cheap enough that it won't kill you if it has to go.

I have found that using expensive blades ($100+) is not practical in firefighting and EMS work. Too many times I have ruined such knives regretting it later on. Therefore I make it a practice of carrying Spyderco knives exclusively on the job. They're cheap enough to replace and strong enough to get the job done 10 times over. I carry an Assist clipped to my duty pants pocket, a Remote Release on my turnouts (I actually have 5 of these knives hanging up as back-ups in my locker should I loose one and 2 extra Assists), and a Jester loose in my pocket.
