I have a spyderco dragonfly I use heavily but am havering a hard time getting it to take a edge after I took the 3chips out with a 200grit diamond stone I usually sharpen with a kitchen steel but seem to be getting nowhere
Kitchen Steels do not sharpen! They only straighten out edges. You need to go up a proper grit progression and ensure that you are hitting the apex when sharpening.

Follow the coarse diamond with a finer one, such as ~600 grit/mesh or so. That'll quickly begin to refine the coarseness out of the edge, and would likely leave a great working edge as well. As mentioned, a kitchen steel won't do much true 'sharpening' per se; they're really only useful for realigning or very lightly touching up edges that are already pretty decent. They're not nearly aggressive enough to refine the edge left by the 200-grit diamond.
