Since I live in the land of Kershaw (Portland, OR), always attend their annual warehouse sale, have met, talked with and enjoyed the company of Thomas W., and have owned and sold / traded my fair share of their product, (and because I've got half a bottle of good red wine in me, but that's another story) I thought I'd tell of my latest purchase.
Stopped by BiMart today (a local membership retailer) and picked up a new JYD. Smaller than I expected (no, I didn't look @ the specs) with the pivot way too tight. No problem thinks I, as I have all the necessary tools, read small Torx, at home to fix this small problem.
Great little knife, a lot like my Mini Mojo, which I love. Kind of wish it had Speedsafe, but no worries. Fits the hand hand wonderfully for a mid-size, and a framelock to boot! I especially like that Kershaw is confident enough in their flipper to forego offering thumbstuds on some models. I looked at the JYD against the Groove and like them both very much. However in this case, even though the Groove flipped much smoother it was just too big for what I was after. I need something smaller to rotate with my Spyderco Poliwog for front pocket EDC. Aside from the tight pivot the only gripe I have ( and this is my issue alone) the framelock only engages about 1/4, if that, of the blade tang when open. I'll probably shave off a couple .000 of the tang in the near future to assure full engagement of the lock.
I particularly like that Kershaw, small though they are in terms of global manufacturers, is able to put forth a truly superior quality, extremely well designed framelock that I can buy for a paltry 33 bucks. Knowing that a lot of their design and manufacture happens in house only increases my respect and constantly elevates their place in the market. I'm looking forward to standing outside in the dark at 3 or 4 in the morning to get a spot at the front
of the line for this years warehouse sale. Missed out on some good ZT stuff last year. But, I definitely need a new G10 Offset this year (plus some other goodies).
