So I see a lot of midtech knives in the "Custom for sale" section...

I was under the impression that knives cranked out on CNC should be in the "Production for sale" sections...

You posted in the Tech Support forum. I'm not certain that this is a "technical support" issue. It is not our job to check every single thread and see if it measures up. You posting this thread here implies that it is. If you want to address sellers about the issue, you should post in the GBU Forum.

My opinion is that the main requirement is for the seller to pick a forum and not post the same knife in another for 14 days. If his knife has not sold in 14 days then he can post it again in another forum. He can also ask for his thread to be moved if he's of a mind to do so. You can PM the seller and tell him is knife is not a Custom if you want.

And somebody explain to me why a knife made specifically for a single customer to the customer's specifications using a CNC machine is not a custom knife. My dentist measured my bum tooth with a laser before grinding it to a nub. He ran the results through a computer program, and fed the results to a CNC machine, which then machined a piece of unfired ceramic. He checked the fit, then fired the ceramic in an oven. That crown is as custom as it gets. It will fit no one else, but was made using a CNC machine.

I understand your point; but the issue really isn't centered on CNC. The sticky for that forum states that midtechs and customized knives are not customs.

The first two posts said that CNC-made knives was the specific issue.

That sticky was entirely my point, so define midtech please.

CNC isn't necessarily the defining factor, Olamics regular one off stuff is custom but their 247 line is midtech. Shiros, Custom Knife Factory, etc...I don't believe those are custom at all.

That's an ongoing semantic question as well as a practical one that I don't believe had ever really been resolved.

I guess we're not going to get any clarification from a Mod?

not from me unless somebody points me at a "midtech stockman". Fancy modern knives is not my thing. I don't even go in much for fancy traditionals.

May come down to the fact that the moderators are not familiar with every knife and it's build. This is understandable. The problem is that not all buyers are either and if a mid tech( or whatever term you choose) is in the custom area, the uninformed may think they are buying a custom. Only solutions I can think of off hand are reporting those threads or buyers doing more research before buying-there often are configuration and material differences if you know what to look for.
and of course sellers could be more careful where they place their ad.-I presume they know what they own. There are also other exchange forums(believe it or not:) ) that categorize customs with mid techs, so some may be just out of habit

What kind of clarification are you wanting... is this really that big of a deal to you ?

Personally, I'm not going to babysit the Custom for sale forum and go through each and every post to determine whether the knife for sale is a custom or mid-tech... if you see a knife there that you feel doesn't belong, report it.

Spark Spark has talked about doing away with the Custom for sale forum in the past, it doesn't generate that much traffic. Maybe that would be the best option, of course I'm sure some members would not be happy with the additional traffic in the Production for sale forums.

Would need to drop the whole "Production" and "Custom" titles though, just make it for sale "Fixed Blades" and "Folders".

Just for the record I would prefer you kept the sub forums(custom & production) . I find the classification useful in my search. Maybe just do away with mid techs not qualifying for the custom forum and let them put mid techs where they want. It can be a bit blurry what is or isn't a mid tech or custom anyway. I really haven't formed an opinion on what to do with Mid techs yet. When the rule was put in place there were just a handful, but the segment has really expanded. In any case I will work with whatever the administration decides.

Please don't eliminate the Custom section as this would overload the other 2, Folders & Fixed. Knives for sale barely last a day on page 1 as it is, before moving into obscurity. Just askin' :(
