I've had this fascination for the last year or so with seeing the Mojave desert. I've been trying to read up on it a bunch , and only finding a little info. Something I DID find that was immediately disconcerting is that apparently there is a bunch of it that is owned privately, and even more that is technically gov't land, but not marked, so theoretically you could get arrested for trespassing without ever knowing when you crossed over onto non-public lands. not sure how true this is, I could only find this refereanced once.
Further more, I can't find anywhere that is clearly marked as an area where you could just park your car and wander off into teh desert [which, unsanely enough, is pretty much what I want to do]. In fact, I really am having a hard time finding much info on the mojave in general.
So I'm wondering if anyone lives nearby where you might have some idea about where one could go and how to get there, and likewise, anything I should know about heading out into the Mojave. Any good souces of info on it would be appreciated as well.
I'm in Ohio, so I probably won't be making it there next week or anything, but it is one of those "to do in the next two years" kind of things.
